I would love it it the gorges could have a short slide/dive. it would be great for escaping enemy fire by quickly diving around a corner or into a vent. (perhaps running and hitting the crouch key could initiate a short slide)
but to prevent people abusing the slide for constant speed boosts, there would need to be some kind of penalty. it would have to be significant otherwise people would be sliding absolutely everywhere. perhaps after sliding the gorge would have to recover for a short second whilst standing back up.
or alternatively DI can be used to kind of lube up the gorge, lol, giving him the ability to use the slide a few of times before running out. however, this ideas is not as balanced. and I can see players abusing the slide whilst within the DI.

thinking back, the gorge slide is kind of self balancing
sure, you can out run (out slide?) the marines for a short period of time - but hey you just left a infestation/slime trail which the marines can follow (or be baited into following hah)
Yes, making the gorge even MORE memorable will do nothing less than make NS2 the best selling game of all time. GG, great idea. Implement!!!! GOGOGGOGOG.

Maybe the slide just allows the gorge to sort of get a small speed bonus by sacrificing control. Also a sliding gorge getting shot should gain/lose momentum. Therefore there more you get shot while running away at least the more speed you pick up.
Also ramps should definitely play a big role in this. Would be awesome to have the gorge slide in a map like Eclipse where all the ways to the hives are generally slopping down and away from the Marine Start. Therefore the Gorge Slide would generally serve as a good retreating aid.

Gorge Slide should basically make the Gorge frictionless while activated.
This means explosions and shooting the Gorge will push her.
Places without Dynamic Infestation will add a respectable amount of friction, which will eventually make the Gorge come to a stop.

thx<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->They actually got the animation in! Could be better like with the front feet pointing forward. But it's still super cool that they animated it and are seriously considering it.
I sure hope they get the slide mechanic in there and in a really cool way. A few new ideas:
*slide takes energy only from initial dive and subsequent thrusts. *maintaining slide mode doesn't use up energy but now there's a small amount of friction so you'd have to keep thrusting forward to maintain speed (or be going down a hill or ramp!).

My logic is that if the Gorge has the feet forward at the start then it allows for him to kick again once he is slowing down (due to friction). Almost like the butterfly stroke when swimming.
The Gorge should only be able to slide on the infestation
This is because if he is able to slide all the time, it'll be way to hard to kill him. Hes a support class anyway so he shouldn't be that mobile. Besides, sliding on infestation also makes sense because infestation is wet and smooth.

Adrenaline to initiate with a boost but you can hold the slide indefinitely.
The balance is that you lose directional control. You can't change direction while sliding expect by geometry of the floor or bouncing of a wall.
You can turn your gorge but the travel direction won't change i.e. sliding sideways or backwards... while spitting John Woo style... but cute.
agree :)
that made me laugh :)

good idea, gorges were easy meat in ns1 (and a good bait :D) so evolution should give them a cute bellyslide to survive :D
