Previously it has been stated that the game would be released through steam and for that you need to have a running steam account.
Now with the pre-orders i'm wondering if you'll be needing to run steam for that version of the game we'll be able to download it directly from unknownworlds?
Or will it become a requirement in the future once the game is released on steam as well?
Asking because i can't run steam due to ISP. :/

They've repeatedly mentioned a standalone edition; although I don't know what that means, I'd assume it meant not connected to Steam. I know if I was Unknown Worlds I would prefer my game to be on every digital distribution scheme with a decent sized playerbase, as well as from my own site.
They may use Steam as a Cheatprotection and Keycheck for banned Players.
will they ?
will they ?

Last I knew, they where using the steamworks feature of steam. You can see these at http://steampowered.com/steamworks/ .
What it works out to is steam friends, steam cloud, and in game DLC.
