Jetpacks?

Anyone else find it a little odd that these marines are using jetpacks in such inclosed areas?

I don't think I'm suggesting anything with this, and I for one think the JP is fine how it is.

Hell, I was thinking about this all day and now I don't even know what to suggest...

But this JP thing sort of breaks away from the realism in the game...

Now I know some of you will pull the "Future in space game" card thing, but this game DOES have realism in it to some extent.

I guess this goes to the same category as onoses using ladders. It's probably easy to prevent from the coding point of view, but more difficult to replace as a gameplay feature.

Yeah it does seem a little odd to be using jetpacks in doors but on a few levels there are some areas which are only accessible with a jetpack; NS just wouldn't be the same without them.

Yes I believe the jet packs need to be used more for getting somewhere rather then fighting...

They need to accel slower, have less juice, and regen alot slower...

Same thing with fades their blink is just WAY to fast for how strong they are.
Fast things that are hard to hit should be easier to kill evasion + Armor ... You cant have the cake and eat it also...

I agree that jetpacks are silly but marines do need a high mobility option, and I can't think of much else that isn't equally silly. At least the jetpack is unique from the kind of flight aliens have.

Jetpacks are awesome the way they are. The only thing to remember is that they must take a while to research, so that the marines can't rush a hive to early in the game.

It's sci-fi, you gotta have personal human flight!

the marines need some mobility option to get at critters hiding in areas they cant get to.

i suppose they could alter the cocept abit, rather than being jet powered they could be rotored, or they could use magnetic fields and produce more of a hovering movement rather than rocketing around. Or they could be more like anti grav jump packs and allow players to jump really far rather than fly.

If they do go for tradition jet packs, id like them to have cool vapour trails, and have a heat distortion effect when you look at them.

Lets remove the only thing that makes Fades and Marines equal to Onos...
Please rethink this... It is posts like this that if followed would reduced games to two increadibly armoured people with increadibly weak guns just slowly killing each other and with no skill level required.

    Also, I disagree...
I think Jetpacks are perfectly logical in NS, they are realistic way for marines to avoid aliens.
They give the option of hight and allow speed.
Also if you have noticed in NS jetpacks make you move faster on the X axis than the Y axis which makes sence.

Actually if anything their Anti Gravity Packs. The "Fuel" gauge is really a Power Supply gauge. The "ReFueling" of that gauge is really the recharging of the power capacitors. At least this is personally how I feel "Jet Packs" are really in the game. They are just wrongly named is all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

I think the jetpack just needs to be redesigned to be more logical. That is, the aesthetics.
