FPS Drops

<div class="IPBDescription">There are some maps where my fps drops a lot</div>I know we have discussed this several times. But I just would like to get some help with this. And when i say this, i mean from the developers.

Since a time ago, the game started to drop fps at some spots. It doesn't happen n every map, just some of them. But what it is really strange, is im using the same computer since a long time ago, and then, the game used to run really smooth. By then, i didn't change my drivers, since i use this computer to work on 3ds max.

After the problem began, i installed the latest ati drivers only to solve nothing. Even tried to set hl.exe to high priority. Recently i had to recover my pc after some issues, so now i got a fresh copy of windows, drivers up to date, empty HD, and after installing steam and the game, the problem is still there.

Obviously my problem wouldn't be my specs, because i used it to play the game with no problem. So what i wanna know if a patch from steam could be the problem, or something with the game itself (some update having problem with my video card) o whatever you could think about.

Well, any idea, any help is always welcome... I just wanna keep playing this game, until you are done with NS2... I will pay for that game, whatever is needed to play <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Thanks.

Might not be related...but I've seen this issue occur on dual/quad core systems. Since the a few HL updates ago, try setting the affinity of the program to run on only one core.

Thanks for your reply, but that isn't the case. This computer is a P4 3.0 Ghz. That means, a single core. I haven't tested the game n the other computers, since i got also 2 dual core and 2 quad core and another P4 (this one same configuration as i'm using right now). If you ask me why i haven't tried the game on those computers. then i would answer that. what i wanna know, is why when i used to use this computer without problem at all, out of the blue, NS started to sux really bad.

    Thanks again.

    uh...
    try disabling vsync?
try disabling in-game chat thing (steam>setting>in-game>disable)
    try disabling anisotropic filtering?

That isn't the problem, since it's only at some spots in some maps. For example in "savethequeen" (or something like that) at the marine base, next to the exit door. But that problem is new, because before i didn't have that issue. And like that, in some other maps as well (not all of them), official and custom maps.

Up-to-date drivers are sometimes bad things when tring to run old games/engines. Many new drivers are modified or optimized to run newer games and whatnot.

I had a similiar problem and went back to a video driver I used 2-3 years ago and the problem has been fixed since.

    FYI, ATI card.

Look through the archives and try some older verions found here: www.guru3d.com

If older drivers don't resolve anything, it could be one of your components nearing the end of its life or maybe overheating. I know my old geforce 3 did something like this before it died. Also, check to make sure that there isn't a lot of dust inside your PC case that's causing overheating.

Does the FPS actually drop? I'm having stable max fps on maps like metal and hera, but the gameplay still looks really nasty and jumpy. It might have something to do with func_nobuild areas, but I've got no idea how to fix it.
