hello
i just started playing ns again after 2 years of not playing
and i get huge 1k ping spikes that freeze for a good 1-2 seconds average
ive done everything i no of to remedy this problem
its on all games on steam
every other game i have doesnt lag spike at all
it really pisses me off since i love ns so much

a 1K ping shouldn't freeze the game, it has different effects.
If it IS ping spikes, then that is most likely some where on your end (router/modem/firewall/wireless/configs/etc). Only thing I can say is you can try wiping out your configs and then setting your connection type properly via the game.
If it isn't a ping spike and the game is just freezing then it could be a few different things:
If it only happens when playing aliens (specifically when leaping/blinking) then use +movement instead of quick switch.
You might also want to try:
Setting hl.exe to run on only one core (ctrl+alt+del, find hl.exe under processes, right click, set affinity)
Setting HL.exe to low priority.
