I have a ground loop

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUC
Okay, bascially, out of nowhere, people on tf2 have begun to tell me "We can hear you fine, stud, but there's a humming" I thought great, I now have the electronic equivalent of herpes. So, I tried installing a new sound card, same hum, its a 50-60hz hum obviously. Here's the kicker. The sound input is FINE, my microphone outbound is giving humming. Here's the really weird part. If i touch my computer case...it stops. Now, my motherboard, and everything are 100% installed properly (remember kids, this cropped up recently with NO CHANGES)

So, what gives OT?

Everyone with a tech support problem should be forced to submit it to you first, for re-writing.

try relatively silly things like moving the wire/case/things around it?

I know you said you changed the sound card, but did you check a different mic?

simple dumb stuff, but still, generally worth a shot....

It might be the alien mind-control device in your brain.

I would assume it's static interference from some kind of large electrical device close by. What has changed recently? Did you get a new power-strip or moved wires around? Make sure your feet aren't close to anything electrical. Also, try changing clothes?

Hmm, sounds similar to a prob I had a while back... Humming noise in everything, I fixed it by disabling line-in...

The motherboard should have a set of grounding connections to the case. Any chance there's a problem there? Or with the main power connect to the motherboard? I only ask because you say it goes away when you touch the case. Basically, any connections you have that connect the case to ground should be checked.

I see what was wrong. My wall outlets in my room only have two eager slits. When I moved in trying to fit my thick grounding plug into them just didn't work. So I went to the store and bought some gender bender plug things with a ground screw. I never screwed. So i ran an extension cable into my room from the kitchen, one that could accommodate my thick plug, and now I am very pleased.

Another option is just to get a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter, and then run a grounding wire to the radiator.

I was only kidding about that. There are no such things as alien mind-control devices. At this moment, you must stop thinking about this matter and forget all your suspicion. SUBMIT. OBEY.
