The problem lies in all this 'open-ended' gameplay as in you can play how you want. People praise these games for giving you freedom but I'd much rather play a heavily scripted game where entertainment is guaranteed rather than the watered-down do-what-you-want-gameplay.
For me, it's useless a dev saying "you can play stealthy and use a rifle from a distance or go gung-ho and get up close"; I'll only ever play one style (attempt to play like a ninja but botch it and turn into a Quake player) so I don't get to experience the other stuff.
