yah, some one borked your crypto.txt It would have reset within 15 mins.

The riddle_reminder.txt has 4 unique IPs:
    <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>each one a full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Take each position and see which number shows up the most, and then use that one.
so if the first octets of the 4 IPs were:
    458
    687
    487
    517
the first octet would be 487</span>

Yah, friken stupid. There is NO WAY I would have EVER guessed that. And I realized after software_info.txt (where there were 5 IPs you had to try to find the right one), that the riddles were dumb and not worth it. Hacking PCs is much more fun. Just go and find one of the good riddle lists and grab software as you can. Hell tbh, this site has all of the damn software listings: <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>http://www.husham.com/slavehack/index.htm</span>

Website still being flakey so I am not playing until I don't have to worry about accidentally leaving my IP some where.

after getting into important.txt (part of tutorial). I was able to hack one but not the other ip, was it changed, or shouldn't I be able to? I only have a .5 wwl

edit: I got some bank info off a guy if any more able player wants to share the profits

edit2: when you make a purchase, does that money transfer get logged on the bank end? and as an early player, how do I fix that if so?

edit3: can you perform connection based actions with more than one server at a time?

487 isn't even an octet. Way to fail at binary, faceless developers.

lolf, my example was just an example, stop being so bitter. A number of the riddles actually do require you to know what an octet is so you can pick out/craft the correct IP.

Gwahir: the second one has a fwl higher then .5

IIRC, you can find the next wwl by poking through the servers listed on the 1.1.1.1 webpage (you need the .5 one you got from the first IP in important.txt)

    sounds good.

So, this entire site outage is kinda annoying. I have my IP reset ready, and was planing on camping banks for a little while, cracking some more accounts, then just do one massive bank run and splurge it all out and rest my IP asap <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

however, once we get the GS up it would be kinda fun to do group bank runs.

We collect a mess of accounts/pws, then one person does all the robbing as every one else simply constantly clears the logs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

That really only takes two people. One person can keep the logs clear quite easily with the instant clear trick, it just requires some communication...

If we wanted to really do this, we would be better off getting a mass of accounts and having everyone in a synchronized manner transferring money out of them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Best would be if we planned a web of transactions so that anyone that does catch something would be unlikely to find out where the money ends up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Yes... site outage is lame. Kind of unacceptable for it to be like this for two-three days.

I was just thinking multiple people just constantly clearing instead of using any sort of real skill/coordination <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

though depending on how many people we have, it would probably pay to have multiple people clearing and robbing...

Hell, we could even do the age old one of uploading a 5.0 FWL before we start so only the people with the highest ranking wwls can get in (fewer people camping logs == lower chance of anyone getting lucky)

heh, long down time == 4K from my slaves when I managed to collect just now, just bought a new CPU, should be fine for a while.

Now I just need to focus on my connection. (still at 2MB)

So, has any one thought of filling log files with 1GB of text and then doing stuff on that machine?

could also be fun to watch people trying to clear it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Just to throw another testimonial on the pile. Spam virii on user systems (NOT NPC SYSTEMS) is the way to go. I've got 1 slave earning me ~300 euros/hour right now (using a 0.3 vspam). That's just 1 system. The total of my 7 NPC slaves are making me ~50 euros/hour total.

yah, if you can get a unique spam virus on a PC player with a good CPU, you can rake it in fast.

Supposedly using the ftp warez sharing stuff going it makes you more money than the spam mailings, it's just harder to set up and doesn't give you as much reputation points.

I think that depends on whether it's a npc or not. npc's have ridiculous amounts of bandwidth and warez sharing profits are based on bandwith.

I believe it was comparing maximum earning potential of ftp sharing vs maximum of spam mailings...
FTP sharing can make more but for someone starting out is not really feasible.

I believe this is actually where the analyzer program comes in handy... I could imagine being at a point in this game where you would set up file sharing on some people and spam mailings on others depending on what size CPU and internet connection they have. That would probably be how to maximize profits, but would obviously take a whole lot more time and effort.

Mailings do work real well for me though, I had 30 slaves before all the server downage, I was making about 5000 an hour i think.
Unfortunately in all this downtime I've fallen to 9 slaves. I think some of my slaves may actually be some public servers from the 4.0+ riddle trail... but I have no way of knowing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

the quick way is to just pop open the IP, if it gives the standard "no web server" then it is a PC, otherwise it is a NPC (so far as I have seen at least <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

    I am still at around 25 slaves <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

My rule is to not bother with NPCs any more.

Two cases I know of where this doesn't need to be true:

    1. Supporting players: People who have donated a fair amount get the ability to create a "webpage", among other things.
    2. Group servers: These are NPCs in the sense that they aren't players, but in terms of risk they are more like players.

If you have Excel 2007 you can use this spreadsheet I made. It automatically checks if an IP is a public one, and also gives you somewhere to track IPs and write down notes.

And yeah, messing with NPCs isn't fun because they clear out their viruses like once a day... Players you can keep tricked for a long time with a well hidden virus.

Be very very careful to delete the IP from YOUR logs. Do it before clearing the group server's logs. The only people that will be on the GS should be us friendly types. We don't want anyone getting our GS IP.

edit: Removed info. PM someone in this thread if you want it.

Can you put up a high level waterwall? Going up one version at a time is taking FOREVER. I'll start uploading my virus collection.

Also. I think we should consider a rule where any time you want to access the group server. You have to reset your ip prior to logging in and can't have done anything that would have created a log entry anywhere else.

Buttnuggets. Seems that the site is working for like 15 minutes every morning and it goes down when I'm in the middle of up-/downloading something big. I was uploading a 1.1 anti-virus to the group server before I got disconnected. I'd also have a 0.6 hider and seeker, and a 0.7 marketing mailer (the spam money collector thingie) I could upload for other nubs like me.

I think the hider/seeker could be pretty useful for beginners and others still in early game. Usually the seeker software I've encountered in other (newbie) players' computers are 0.4 at most.

I agree people should be über careful with the GS, but having to reset your IP before logging in sounds a bit too much. Only because the delay between resets is like a lifetime. I think you should at least wait an hour or two after you've done a lot of hacking before logging in to the server. If there's a possibility that someone has intercepted your IP, you should give him some time to camp your logs (or do whatever he's going to do) and wait till he gets bored and moves on.

    Be cautious!

I have a 1.1 cracker and a 1.1 spam controller, if nothing better is on I'll upload it to the server once I can get on the site. Really annoying that right when I get started, the site has these problems. Is it always like this?

I'm at the site by IP but it only gives me a crack option, not a real login option
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
you have to crack it first (not hard once the 5.0 FWL is hidden), then just log in, there is a section about managing the server, and group management or something. Once you are there you put in our group PW and you join.
