compression blast can screw over a soldier as well as his primary damage dealer can become useless and even dangerous to himself.

I started playing spy again as the pyro spam has been declining and I have to say it is still quite hard but fun now that the firestarters are lower in population. Melee backstab still sucks as ever (facestab anyone?, meh melee still is quite weird with the long range reach <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

Also the backburner seems to be able to crit when you are facing the pyro... crit area behind you is then registered as the pyro actually being behind ya... while... you know... HE'S NOT!!! (random encounter, but it does happen...)

Compression blast doesn't really screw over the soldier, it just turns the game into a shotgun fight for a few seconds until the soldier switches back to the rocket and blows the pyro away.
  • SvenpaSvenpa Wait, what? Join Date: 2004-01-03 Member: 25012Members, Constellation
It really depends if the pyro is starting off with a compression blast or not. It is possible to instantly shoot air after using flames but takes a second to start flaming again. If the pyro is already up close and personal with fire and fast enough to reflect the first rocket, the soldier is most likely toast even if the next shot is a crit. It is also quite unsettling when you juggle a pyro and he reflects back the next rocket while airborne. My computer apparently sucks so I can't time it with the crappy fps but I've seen some who sniperlike twitch reflect projectiles around them.

Ah, I was thinking of long distance. Up close the airblast definitely helps you.

    What is that?

I think the next one should introduce the civilian class with an escort game mode. The VIP already made a cameo in Meet the Sniper. Seems to be the most obvious game mode to add.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's probably something along the lines of, "Except hunted is crap if your VIP screws up"

True, but being the hunted is TONS of fun.

    Unfortunately, the payload style is valve's replacement for hunted, as far as I've heard <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

If it's hunted, I sure hope the civ can be ubered. I wouldn't want to defend some poor sod vs snipers and spies or kritzkrieg soldiers/hevies/demos/scouts or what have you. Or completely remove it from defending team.

How was the civ determined in tfc? Fastest person to be the class?

Maybe the new gamemode is team survival! (As in, endless SD!!!)

Absolutely hated hunted/escort maps in both TFC and CS. They're great in principle, but they fall down in pub matches since co-ordination isn't a strong point on pubs.

I guess in organised play they can be a fun break from the norm, but I would rather they put time into developing something else tbh.

Well what other game modes could it be? I could see a King of the Hill mode too... Both teams would rush to one point to try to secure it and then try to hold it until time runs out... and then a new hill would be chosen.

I still think Escort maps are the most likely.

p.s. Like turbine, I think steel is a crappy map.

Both of them are very good community maps, but they are just not at the same level as the professional maps.

ctf_turbine is too small and doesn't fit the same theme as the rest of the game... It's fun but there are just not very many points of interest. It's like a small deathmatch map. It's good as a community map but just shouldn't be an official one.

cp_steel is very chaotic. The map layout is really convoluted. I know they probably chose it because having the final point always be vulnerable is a very interesting gameplay mechanic, but this map just isn't ever fun to me.

    I liked hunted a lot.

That being said, it is also the only map I would play on a 24/7 server and believe should NOT be in regular server rotation.

Combine that with taking a line from Zombie master and you could make it even better, For those that haven't played ZM:
ZM is that game where it is a bunch of survivors vs one player as ZM who is basically playing an RTS trying to kill the survivors before they complete tasks. Playing as ZM is a challenge so at the start of each map you are given the option to put your name down for ZM or to stick to being survivor. It then rotates the ZM each round.

Everyone got a chance to be the Hunted, which probably added to it being fun because different players always wanted to take different approaches.

Or it is for beating down scouts.

So, the melee unlock looks suck.

Aww we didn't get knockback but this is even better in terms of usefulness!

Let's guess the achivements shall we?

Permanent Revolution, my guess is survive entire round and never stop spinning the minigun?
Soviet Block, block a cap and/or kill everyone on it.
Stalin the Kart, stand near cart as enemy team tries to push.
Krazy Ivan, kill x amounts under water
Spyalectical Materialism, kill spies uncloaking nearby.
Communist Mani-Fisto, x kills in a row with gloves.
Pushkin the Kart, push cart x length
Iron Kurtain, hold spot while killing x attackers

Shotgun replacement will be the sandwich after all? Some achievements seem to require it, or at least vengeance on scout.

Oh nevermind, the filename of the pictures explain most of the achievements.

Edit: tf_heavy_kill_taunt.png :o the heavys "pow, HAWHAW" will be like pyro hadouken? AWESOME

EDIT EDIT: tf_heavy_eat_sandwiches.png the sandwich is in.

the kill taunt could be kill someone then taunt (all 3 taunts) or kill some number of people while they're taunting.

KGB looks like a useless addition- no good heavy would swap to fists at point blank range when the chain gun is so easy to use, and no good opponent would want to get that close to the front of a heavy.

And if you manage to kill with the KGB, you'll want to swap to the chaingun and fire off some crits, but the warm up time would waste at least one second.

Seems a waste giving the slowest class in the game-with a primary gun that doesn't need reloading- an unlockable melee weapon.

kind of like the ubersaw amirite?
I'd whip out the shotgun. Shotty crits <i>hurt</i>, and you can get like 3 in a row.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
the ubersaw is not nearly as time dependent. I've managed to quad ubersaw a heavy, activate uber on myself and run out of a situation I never would have survived otherwise.
