Creepy?
Question for ya'll.

Is drawing an unsolicited portrait of a girl you aren't dating creepy? As the quality of the drawing gets better, is it more or less creepy?

Do you have several pictures of this girl or are you just working on the one portrait?

Does she need to know you're drawing a picture of her?

If I had no wang(which most on these forums assume), I'd say no. But you need to know her well- if you don't, I'd say yeah, real fast.

I think it partially depends on context. If there's any sort of compromising positions going on in those drawings I'd go with a 'no'. If you know the person decently well, or they know you're a good drawer or something, it could be construed as a compliment. It's also less awkward if they're not dating anyone, as well.

If you want to cover that one up, just draw some other people and say you're going for drawing random people.

...I've had the urge to draw some people, but I find they generally don't sit still long enough...plus I'm bad at drawing animate objects usually.

That's right, my sig image's color is formatted to the old forum color scheme, wanna fight about it?

Okay, artists do this all the time. They seem someone who just looks, well drawable. It's not weird to draw someone. Hell, it wouldn't even be weird if she showed up at the same time at the same place and you continued to draw her. I know a guy who once sat across from a sleeping bum in a park and drew him. It's the study of life really. Anyway, if you fancy her and ask her out be sure to hide the drawings in the bat cave eh? Or outright tell her. My advice is keep on drawing, if you're intrested in her then allow her to accidentlly see the portrait. Like, let it dangle from your notebook and fall by her feet, continue to walk on until she picks it up and hollars. I'd like to see how that turned out ^.^

No matter how familiar you are with this person, if you're drawing in an objective manner, just for practice, then I would say no. I think a better drawing does make it seem less creepy, and drawing the other people around her can help as well. Don't try to hide it either.

I've had this problem before. As an artist, if I see an interesting subject for a drawing or photograph, I don't feel restrained because it's part of the trade.

Actually I'm drawing her because I'm completely head over heels for her, and need an outlet for all of that energy. We've been seeing eachother off and on for the last 8 months, and she's been feeling pretty crazy about it too, but she doesn't feel comfortable dating me because I'm American. (She's Indian.)

That's the short version anyways. Eventually I need to start getting over this girl, but in the meantime, I might as well get some good art out of it.

Here's the drawing. 11'x14' HB, 2B, and 4B. About 4-5 hours of work.

If I was a girl and someone drew a picture of that quality of me I would think it was pretty ######ing cool.

How is an extremely-high quality drawing go into the creepy zone again?

    (

Because a drawing that looks like it took you about 20 months of work to complete (all the little extreme details, like even drawing every single freckle she has on exact the correct spot) looks very obsessive tounge.gif

    Correct.

A photo would be much better in quality and the creepiness only depends on how you take the picture.

Out on a date, having fun? Ok.
Hiding in the bushes? Not Ok.
Drinking while someone has a cam and taking pics? Ok.
Kidnapping and putting her in a locked room. Not Ok.

You see where I'm going with this.

What about drawing a perfect picture of her, stapling it to the face of a lifesize doll made out of potato sacks in beanbag fashion and then putting that in a locked room? Is that OK? nerd-fix.gif

    ---

On a serious note, she'll probably like it, and she might cast of the shackles of her racial oppression and go on a libertarian crusade for you if she sees it.

Okay, I lapsed into non-seriousness again there.

Is she the one in blue in the Salsa Performance Dinner album?

As long as he doesn't go to Pier 1 Imports and buy a bunch of candles and flowers, setting them up in a shrine like fashion with the picture on the wall and a lock of her hair on on a pedastol. Very nice drawing btw, it's super-realistic.

Would it be ok if he went to walmart to pick up the candles? Does that make a difference?

I think we need a new version of the creepiness graph to take into account where the creepy shrine candles were bought.

really good drawing =p so she knows how crazy you are about her? and she kinda feels the same way but refuses to get too serious due to culture? that quite sucks. you probably are better off trying to get over her. I don't understand people who cling to culture. I personally have no culture. Completely uncultured. She lives in America doesn't she? This country is a melting pot. she should suck it up and melt in.

You may not have noticed, but the picture he drew is pretty f*ing boss.

Yeah dude, I would say that you definitely fall somewhere in the "good drawing, not creepy." And you didn't mention until you posted the picture that you guys have been seeing each other for 8 months. Doesn't that constitute dating? Or did you mean that you guys have been making eye contact for 8 months? Either way... I can't imagine her not liking the picture, unless it doesn't look like her.

BTW tell her to stop being racist and just get with you.

Why do you have to get over her, when she's pretty crazy about you too? You said she didnt like you were an american, but surely that's a small barrier, considering she's crazy about you?

I was in the ethnic barrier thing. I dealt with it by eating out with her and her parents. They were satisfied with me, and all was good for the time it lasted.

Unfortunately her parents are in Jaipur, India. However, I may be going to a friend's wedding in Delhi in February, so if things are still the way they are I may have to take a train up there and meet them.

Thanks for the kind words everybody.
