Atmosphere on space platforms?
http://www.starcraft2.com/features/terran/banshee.xml
I might be wrong about this. I was never the biggest starcraft fanatic, but I don't recall there ever before being Starcraft units that clearly required an atmosphere to function.

There were always plenty of units that would have had to breath atmosphere, like the zerg. Dark templar and Zealots didn't have any kind of visible breathing aparatus either. Wraiths as well, they were just aircraft. Mutalisk/scourge also flapped their wings to stay aloft.

You just dont get it, do you?

Those rotors are no rotors. They are cooling fans, making sure that the anti-matter propulsion system stays cool!

But hey, maybe the terrans just terraform those space platforms, before they attack them... confused-fix.gif Who knows?

You can mince it anyway you like, but if a government can take it a way then it doesn't really matter if it is a right or a privilege, does it?

Wraiths weren't just aircraft (they clearly had a closed cockpit) but yeah, there were plenty of units in Starcraft that wouldn't function sans-atmosphere.

On the realism scale, Stracraft II is just below dialogue written by George Lucas and just above an acid trip. They're not going for a 100% perfect recreation of an actual galactic conflict. It's just a real time strategy game.

The protoss always had their shields, so I figured you could just explain them away with that. And who knows what zerg breath? You've got me on the mutalisks though. Alright, I'm satiated.

Go on Starcraft. Keep making no sense. We love you anyways.

The Zerg were spacefaring, so I'm pretty sure they didn't need an atmosphere.

That's because the zerg would all be stored in massive city-folds of Behemoths. Then when they wanted to invade a planet they'd load up in Overlords and they'd drop them from the behemoths onto the planet.

How do Overlords survive atmosphere entry? Who knows.

Eh, I just remember a cutscene from SC where there was a huge flock of zerg in space, even mutalisks.

Atmospheric requirements aside, the tail rotor adds unnecessary mechanical complexity. The concept had one lift rotor and would have required a tail rotor to prevent the aircraft from spinning out of control. With two contra-rotating drive rotors, you'd be able to perform a zero-point turn or yaw by increasing power on one of the rotors and a high-speed bank turn by performing a slight roll at speed and then using the devices that look like front canards to alter pitch. In addition, the torque from the oversized tail rotor would alter flight mechanics enough that improper application of power on a rapid altitude change could cause the craft to become inverted.

    But it's so cool!

Also, the tail rotoer would allow for turning without the possibility of losing altitude.

Meh for sake of realism, the game should be completly void sounds when in space... hmm?

Increase torque on one rotor while decreasing angle. Standing turn with no altitude loss.
