Tech support problem!

this is my cousin's computer - whenever watching a video/playing a game or anything that uses 3d the cpu usage jumps to 99% and generally causes a hardboot, also the crash happens when copying to/from the hd.


anyone have any idea whatg could be causing it?

    We're going to need to know more than you've told us. For example, the CPU. And the video card. And the OS. And the hard drive.

    well the problem is it worked fine before his sister got some virus on it, so he formatted and then bam ;p

    it's kind of an oldish computer, just upgraded from 256mb of ram to 1gb ;p

    the one thing i know is hes got a nvidia 6600gts

    Make sure he has the proper chipset/mainboard drivers and graphics drivers. A fresh install on a PC wihtout the latest chipset drivers can run very sluggish if Windows cant provide a suitable driver.
