I'd prefer a new game with some new innovations rather than "Starcraft 3d"
Sort of in the same vein, but I believe the issue is that is SC is just too late to be much of a bigger hype. Had SC2 been announced a few years earlier, maybe. However, it's a bit too late in the game to say it'll be worth it (on the other hand, it is just a preview, so we'll have to see what comes of it). At this point right now it IS just SC with an appearance overhaul, some new units, and a handful of tweaks and gameplay changes.
Pretty much every main-stream gamer I've talked to about this is very excited. They're giving the people what they want, good for them. It looks about as unique and innovative as a sequel should be to me. If you want totally revamped gameplay and units, you aren't asking for a sequel. From the commentary it sounds like they really tried to add some new strategies in.
No matter what they announced, some group would complain about it. There's just no pleasing kids today <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

Actually, your comparison doesn't make sense.
Criticizing something isn't the same as claiming you could do it better.
If a persons opinions are only to be considered valid if that person is capable of creating work that is superior to that being criticized, then half the movie/music/game review market should be out of business.
Really, I hate the line of thinking "Well, you can't criticize because you couldn't do any better!".

Seriously, get a grip. Its like you don't even know what you're talking about.
The Battlefield series isn't an MMOFPSRTS- its an FPS. Don't say its an RTS- it isn't. "Oh, but there is a top down commander mode!"- that doesn't make it an RTS. And 2142 wasn't a half bad game.
Blizzard isn't making a title like that because...oh my God...<b>they don't want to</b>. Novel concept I know, but hey, internet forums don't dictate what they do, especially considering their caliber in making games better than most of the companies out there.
God, your ignorance-laden jaded viewpoint of this entire situation is frustratingly stupid. Its one thing to say its not enough after all this time, but now you're trying to back up your view with things you obviously don't understand.

I always liked the Dragoons as their weapon (the firey, glowing ball) fitted well with the protoss theme. I.e., the arbiter shot very similar balls and so did the proton cannon. The new dragoons aka Immortals are a nice answer to seige tanks (which inevitably had to return) but they just dont look as nice :<
I think we need less lasers and more energy balls. I watch the trailers and feel like I'm about to see an ion cannon fire. The new siege tank looks much less cool than the old one. Team colors really are too bright and noticeable. For example- <a href="http://www.starcraft2.com/screenshot.xml?8" target="_blank">this</a>(go high res). The marines look very similar to my Warhammer 40k Space Marine models. I covered them in solid red and poured as much varnish(shine) on as I could.
Compare to <a href="http://www.starcraft2.com/screenshot.xml?2" target="_blank">this</a>. Awesome zerglings, the marines actually look worse in this picture.
Still, I'm confident that blizzard can fix all the art issues.

Ontopic: It's looking good though it seems to suffer a bit from the Doom 3 look where things are too shiny. If they could back off on the shinyness of everything I think it would look better. It seems really bad with the Terran armor.

Btw: High Templars are definitely in and you can even see them casting psionic storm in the concept art video at 1:29 (floating guys on right)
I'm trying to take all these people banging on Blizzard's decision-making skills seriously but the whole "they make millions while you are just some random guy on an internet forum" keeps getting in the way.

That never stopped people from bashing Microsoft <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
The world is full of people who think they can do things better despite the fact that they have no experience. The internet just amplifies this.
See Penny Arcade: They make a living criticizing games, but once they tried to make one they said they were "humbled" by how challenging it really is.

Stop bashing eachother around... mundhuggeri thats what it is.
The goal of posting on these forums seems more about proving other people wrong than anything else.

Reading through the Immortal description it seems that the Dragoon wont make an appereance as well.
No: EA has been an innovator for the MMORTSFPS genre since Battlefield 1942 and has been screwing it up right up until 2142, so where is Blizzards response to this? Nowhere to be found. In the time that it took EA to screw up 4 titles already Blizzard has just <b>started</b> working on SC2, in the time it will take EA to screw up another 4 releases, Blizzard will just be releasing SC2. By the time Blizzard gets around to righting EA's (or any company's) wrongs in the MMORTSFPS genre, chances are that company will have outmastered them by then. GG Blizzard.

But... but I LOVE the dragoon!
For once, the dragoons have not returned <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Quote of the week.
If it had those things, it wouldn't be Starcraft at all. Then they might as well make infantry squad-based and rename the Protoss "Eldar". I know that many people are spooked by Starcraft because you actually need skill to play it. Of course it would be easy if you could just: "I'll break the morale of <b>THAT</b> squad! *Click*. Harr, can't attack me now!"
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah, because having more options for strategic combat (note I had more things than morale) totally turn it into an easy, no-skill game. Strategy games having strategy? ######! NO!

So positive opinions are some sort of exception right?
For the ones out there just joining us; we are already through first periode - secound periode is about to start, and the theme is the recognizable "Insults, namecalling and heavy doubting of sexual preferences", and even though several contesters had to be disqualified for staying way to civilized, we are still on fire! Iam telling ya', it's gonna be a great show tonight!
Over to you Bob!

Ontopic: It's looking good though it seems to suffer a bit from the Doom 3 look where things are too shiny. If they could back off on the shinyness of everything I think it would look better. It seems really bad with the Terran armor.
