Martial Arts!

In 'em, love 'em?
So, basically, my friends and I are putting together an action film this summer (Since one of said friends is a film major) and I'm being used in some stunts and stuff. I'm into TaeKwonDo (Jidokwan) and take a lot of things from Capoeira.

So, I was just thinking, how many people in the NS community are into a martial arts form?

I made a thread like this a while ago, we have some wrestlers and stuff in here too IIRC.

I myself am training in Muay Thai. Hopefully I can start an amateur career towards the end of this year.

Yeesh, you didn't have to get sticks beaten over your shins and forearms did you?

If you're referring to that weird Taiwanese or whatever martial arts vid, with the phony beating and conditioning, that's not Muay Thai XD

Here are some great examples of Muay Thai training. Impressive too: the power of many MT strikes are considered to be unrivalled, especially the Thai roundhouse. Yodsaenklai Fairtex is the professional fighter shown in the vids.

All of that "beating with sticks" stuff was never a focal point of MT training, and by now all that crap is long gone. All training is focused on conditioning, strength, or technique.

    Do you use those knives?

What're they called... Kerambits? Yeah, that's it.

I've yet to see a Djuru done before.

I don't know if it's even considered a martial art any more, compared to all that carpet dancing you guys do, but I'm an amateur boxer. Been in three fights so far.

I previously went to Hung Kuen Kung Fu, but I couldn't get there due to work time commitments. (The club started at 6:00pm, I finish work, and it's pretty much exactly an hour away. After fighting through rush hour traffic, finding a space, etc, I just wasn't up for it at all) I'm keen to find a new one to do actually, but there doesn't appear to be anything beyond Tae Kwon Do in my area. (bleh!)

Most recently I have been studying TKD, until I sprained my ankle, now I have sprained/broken my wrist (should go get that looked at tbh), and still have not gone back yet. The place I was studying also covered KapKiDo as a more "real world" self defense then TKD is.

I also studied Jeet Kun Do for a few years (I keep on movie/breaking stuff and have to lay off the MA for a long time). JKD was alot of fun as we studied Muay Thai, Kali (AKA Eskrima, Arnis de Mano, FMA), Shoot wrestling, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, Wing Chun, and probably a few other things.

Switching over to TKD after that was interesting. I had a lot of the basics (I knew how to throw proper punches and kicks), and however tweaking them over to standard TKD techniques was interesting.

My roundhouse Kick had to become a snapping kick (from the Muay Thai baseball bat approach I was used to), and before I busted my ankle I could easily kick head height (something rarely done in JKD).

On the other hand my knowledge from different sorts of Trapping/grappling fed directly into Hap Ki Do in many cases.

If you're into martial arts then you must buy Chuck Norris's Action Jeans. That is all.

I've been in taijutsu for 6 years now, and I was doing aikido for about 1 year. Now I work with the aikido teacher at a restaurant. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
