    Exactly, that's why you should send it to him personally. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Now, even though he is a member of the community, and we all trust each other, I'd still be a bit wary of "LOL TAKE MAH LAPTROP INTARBLAG STRANGER!!".

Except that I have met DrFuzzy personally. He's a good shot in paintball.

*sigh* I'm sending it in for service...

Talking to the guy in India now. They will reformat my HD... Gah. I also have to change out my wireless card with the stock intel one...

I'll be laptopless again for a couple weeks. This blows. They'll replace the display and power button board, and for no reason install XP home.

Actually they are usually very durable systems. The problem is that manufacture warranties don't do jack now days (the trade off for lower prices) and worse they all off-shore the labor for the phone call center. I hate Microsoft's New Delhi office.

Mac is an awesome OS, I'd use it if the games I played didn't require the Mircrosoft proprietary DirectX. Somebody really should sue to make it open-source 3rd party, or come out with a netural 3rd party version that game developers could use instead.

Actually, a lot of DX games, including HL2 will run on Linux/OSX through wine/cxoffice/cedega. HL2's even quite playable.

Really? Hmm. Well I like Apple's OSX, if only their hardware itself wasn't so costly... In a desktop you could just buy any brand and then format the harddrive (nuking Vista to hell) and then install a full version of OSX and replace the Microsoft standard keyboard with an Apple one. The problem on the laptop is that unless it's a Sony, I don't know if you can swap the keyboard out. Even then I don't know if directly converts. Damn keys!

If I wanted to do the best laptop for the dollar I'd do this:

    1. Take one <a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1167445400853&type=product" target="_blank">Sony SZ430</a>
    2. Format HDD, bye bye Vista
    3. Install the Mac OS X 10.4, hard part would be keyboard keys and getting drivers for the hardware in it. (solve that <i>before</i> buying or formatting!!!)

I can hold that thing by a corner with one hand. It's that lightweight. And it's much more powerful than the comparable Apple system. Insane CPU, Performance grade PC2-5300 RAM, the G-Sensor on the HDD really works plus note that it's a SATA (huge diff from most still using IDE), an nVidia 7400 graphics card has dedicated memory of its own (might need Mac OSX drivers though), finger print reader (I'd use it to key in all of my passwords), and a built in Cingular AirCard (have to signup to use, but allows you to pick up internet as ISDN speeds anywhere you can get a cellphone signal, which is everywhere really; I'd use that with skype and a bluetooth headset, since this machine also has built-in bluetooth).

If you do get a regular laptop and install OS X, it would be best to check hardware compatability on the <a href="http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page" target="_blank">OSx86</a> wiki.
