I thought I was obsessed with anime, but after reading that long list, I feel like a noob. I don't know a lot of different anime series, just a few popular ones that are quite recent. For example Naruto, Bleach, FMA, Gundam Seed. I only really watch english translated anime, never liked the all girl voices for anime characters in japanese. Anybody ever heard of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negima" target="_blank">Negima!?</a>

    I thought that was Mai Otome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
no, otome is the same freaking thing all over again. here's a list of things that were reused:
    - characters
    - scenes
    - relations
    - backdrops
    - artwork
    - gags
    - plot
    - ending

on a side note, claymore is emo city. i haven't seen this much whining since shinji lost his walkman.

Not anime, but I'm looking forward to this Korean animation.

    A scene from <a href="http://dory.mncast.com/mncHMovie.swf?movieID=10008485720061105012849" target="_blank">Aachi and Ssipak</a>

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->"AACHI & SSIPAK. An animated film from director Joe Bum-jin about a futuristic world powered entirely by human feces. With the government anxious to control this sole, important source of energy, they install special sensors on its citizens' anuses to monitor production, while controlling the populace by distributing addictive popsicles. This quirky feature animation has already been pre-sold to multiple countries, and MTV has licensed rights to create an animated series on the same theme and characters. This film is now reportedly completed."<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Very high brow indeed.

Here's a high profile animation from Thailand released last year. The guy who headed the project worked for Pixar or Dreamwork or something.

As expected from any movie from Thailand, it has elephants.

    ^_^

I got started watching the Japanese version with subtitles and then out of curiosity watched an episode of something with the English dubs. I didn't even finish the episode. I cringed from how out of place the English voices sounded <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Elfen Lied is my most recent favorite. We recently got a new bulb for the projector in the house I'm at so I've been watching it again on the big screen <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I've noticed some of the stuff Funimation has done wasn't really what I expected. For example, I've watched all of Full Metal Alchemist in english (by Funimation) and I found they did an amazing job with how they made it, and the voices for it are good. But of course, I haven't read the manga or seen the Japanese version of FMA.

The manga has a large influence of how you would think characters voices would sound, same goes for Japanese anime. I've read a manga called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negima" target="_blank">Negima!</a>, and after reading a few volumes (it's a really good manga series), I saw the english anime version of it. Was I disappointed or what, the voices were the total opposite of what I pictured them. Of course it was also by Funimation, but it was just disappointing because I thought FMA was so good that this must be good too, but it wasn't. How they drew it was nothing compared to the ones in the manga and it's a short series, only 26 episodes.

I tried watching Negima! in Japanese, but the fact that almost all the characters voices are played by girls just makes me wonder. I was planning to complain and say to make a new Negima!, but I haven't really gotten to that yet, plus it came out like 2 years ago...haha.

"Lucky Star" is a new anime that started airing in Japan on April 9th. It is another "slice of life" anime that is focused around highschool girls, and people who enjoyed azu will probally like this one too. This one in paticular is about a group of friends who are completly diffrent and manage to get along just the same. The primary downside that a lot of people have mentioned is the series is dialouge-heavy. A lot of the jokes are contained within the conversations. Thankfully, AFK is subtitling the series as it is released and they do exceptional work. Also, there is a geeky girl with a permanent gem smily. VICTORLY.

    Opening follows.

Yeah, they are supposed to be 17, and in high school. Blackmage likes 1/6th scale girls!

Am I right to assume that Uguu is a relatively recent show ? There doesn't seam to be that many infos on it as to how many episodes are existing (I mean besides wiki). I only saw a glimps of it on Youtube.

dont let the first episode fool you. Its pritty slow and boring but picks up afterwards.

I think LS is bad. They're just milking the niche market.

I'm going to finish off Chevalier D'Eon. After that, maybe Gankutsuou.

"Based on a manga by Kimura Tahiko serialised in Gangan Wing.

Nagasumi visits his grandmother near the sea during the summer. While visiting, he goes for a swim, and drowns right after entering the water. Fortunately for him he is saved by a young mermaid. Later as he tells the story to his family, a young girl named San appears at his home and begs Nagasumi to marry her.

She’s followed by two large thugs and they take both him and his parents to San`s home under the sea. If that wasn’t strange enough, it turns out San`s parents are mob bosses. Nagasumi is left with the choice of either death or marrying San. He chooses to marry a mermaid.

This would likely be that, except San`s father and some members of the mob are not exactly thrilled to have Nagasumi courting San and are determined to bring an end to their relationship--or him. And there is also the matter of keeping it a secret that San is a mermaid."

Naturally, scaryface! :] I showed it to a friend last weekend and he was absolutely blown away.

I share this opinion of Lucky Star:
    <a href="http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=luckystarvt3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/4869/luckystarvt3.th.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>

It's not that it's a terrible show, but it panders, the slices of life it serves are not all that entertaining (like say, Welcome to the NHK, Haruhi, or Azumanga) and there's so much great stuff out there to watch, and so little time to watch it.. why settle for a cheap moe-fix? Unless that's all you need. Then you're good, I guess.

Gankutsuou is certainly worth the watch. With absolutely brilliant art direction and good material to work from, it's a very well made series. Of course, trust the Japanese to shove a mecha fight in there, but apart from a few poor choices, the series executes the story of the Count Monte Cristo quite well, even integrating French (well spoken, too!) in an extremely effective manner.

I watched Gurren Lagann ep 1-2-3. It was kinda good but I have some stuffs that bug me (I don't remember some terminalogies from the series so ...):

    1) when the enormous mecha came from the roof and crashed down into their cave home, there was sunlight coming from the opening but when Simon, his brother and that girl managed to drive it back to the surface, they emerged from the ground where no openings were already there. It looked initialy as if they pushed it streight up from their home but I didn't noticed if they kept going streight up or went side ways afterwards. I mean, if it originaly came from surface and if they pushed it streight up, they would have come up through the same opening but there wasn`t any.

    2) It seams that somehow, the mecha`s head that Simon found, is responding to will power and somehow transfering piloting knowledge to Simon through unknown means. Is that knowledge actualy being passed on as he is piloting it or does Simon somehow have that knowledged geneticaly implanted into him ? He admited he doesn't know how to pilot it but still does it anyway.

    3) Simon's brother (not his real brother but since I cannot recall his name, that the only way I can refer to him) seams to be commanding both the mecha Simon found and that other mecha they found on the ground (from a total different technology) by will power also, and even somehow commanding it to do things like combining both of them into a new mecha. The mecha head somehow altered the other mecha to create new arms and new interfaces just because he wanted it. Now, I am curious to know later on in the series if this will be eventualy explained on how him and Simon are actualy able to alter the mecha`s physical apperance just by will power.

    4) in the opening, we see a man on a spaceship who seams to be a pirate but at least a captain. Later on, we discovered what happened to Simon`s brother's dad. We discover his dad had the same red cape. So we can assume that he is the son of that captain/pirate. Could it be that this is somehow the reason why he is able to do what I mentioned in 3) ? If so, what about Simon ? Could he also be related to that captain or ship ?

It's just that I had seen other shows where some weird stuffs were never explained. You just had to accept them. Overall, I kinda liked it and found it funny that someone acting like a total moron who thinks he is invincible but somehow managed to influenced the outcome of the mecha's battle. I gota say, Simon had some very interesting pillows back there (lucky bast...).
