Not impressive. Come back when you've got pictures of five hundred nude blood elf nubs dancing.

Forty freaking dollars is way too much to pay for an expansion. I would understand it if they like, really needed the money, but that's almost as much as a standalone Guild Wars game that doesn't include a monthly fee at all, and Blizzard's making approximately infinity dollars each month anyways.

I payed 260 Dkkr for it, which translates into, 260/5,75*0,8, 36 dollars. So it doesn't really cost 40 dollars as you claim.

Amazon says 40, but still. Isn't this the average cost of an expansion?

A few points:

This is not a 'normal' MMO expansion. This includes two years worth of work in it- and it shows. The gameplay time is purported to be nearly as long, going just from 60-70, as it took to go 1-60. I don't know if its true, but thats whats been said.

A lot of expansions come out at $40. The Original WoW has been lowered to $20 permanently to substantiate, still making the bar to come in low.

The budget on TBC was humongous. I'm not saying it used all of their profits, but I'm sure it cut into a decent chunk.

...their a business. Why be angry that their making money when they know damn well that we'd all spend it? It'd be stupid to not charge that. Lets not get into the right/wrongness of it, 'cause in the end, their not abusing anyone, and the price is something were all quite willing to pay.

Yep, current exchange rate from USD to GBP is nearly 0.5GBP/USD. Which is bang on for the price of an exanpsion, which are usually £19.99...

So 40 dollars is not a rip off for an expansion, it's actually the going rate in the strongest currency.

Same here (3 quits). I'm just... bored, bored with the repetative nature of mmorpg :/

I don't think I'm going to continue once again with WoW. It seems to me to be more of the same with new flashy skills against enemies which take more time to kill etc...

About $40,000,000, give or take depending on exchange rates per country and hourly usage in China(being they don't do monthly service there).

Do you know how much of that goes up in server costs? Don't quote me on this, but last time a blue spoke on it(a euro one, actually), he said their bandwidth costs go into the tens of millions per month. Still leaves them with lots of profit, sure.

Once again I say, guess what: Their a business. Not a charity.
• eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
I never said that they were a charity or that they shouldn't try their hardest to suck the life and money out of every dumb kid that's addicted to their dumb game. However, pretending like blizzard are making some huge risky investment in the expansion, or even that it's going to cost them something that'll make them bat an eyelid, is ridiculous. They've made a LOT of money, more than you can estimate just by counting subscribers and subtracting server costs.

Well, they spend the rest of the budget on dispatching baby-sitter teams so you whiners don't go and crash more servers.

Also, can I have your Burning Crusade upgrade key? Please?

Oh comon, Warlocks got a Warrior-sized nerf this lats patch.

But yeah Emp_Awe, its certainly within their grasp. Its not a risk, thats for sure. Its just quite an undertaking- there hasn't been an MMO expansion quite this big since Kunark for EQ1.
