Re: Welcome to Caged - Natural Selection 2
At long last! It's been a long 3 1/2 years to get it to completion and it still needs some work now. I hope to have a Low Lights option next week, and to patch the holes and fix the greybox textures that I missed (generally in the Ventilation area). There's quite some optimization to be done still, and I want to put collision geometry on the floors where there are vertical shifts so you don't bounce around so much. The map is complete, but not quite done.
Thanks to everyone who helped me these past few years. Weekly SCC playtests and eventually maptesting and playtesting have all helped me to keep on going when I got frustrated along the way. There have been periods were I barely worked on the map at all but playing the game with my friends has always made me come back to it. I'm sure that had this been an entirely solitary project, it would never have been completed. So thank you all!

Re: The Alien Vision change is a change for the worse
As of a few updates ago, alien vision turns on automatically. This has been an option in NS2+ for ages, and was recently merged to vanilla. If AV is not automatically turning on for you, then perhaps the setting is off in NS2+ and it is overriding vanilla.
The removal of outlines in regular vision can certainly be argued as a bad choice. But with AV on automatically, does it affect gameplay? Simply do nothing, and alien vision will always be on, and you will always see outlines.
The current AV in vanilla is Huze's Minimal. I'm not sure I would describe it the way you have. Moreover, it's been a very popular AV for a long time, precisely because it affects vision in a very un-garish way. To be sure, marines' outlines can be a bit strong, especially to people accustomed to the version that used to ship with NS2+.the extremely colored and shaded alien vision

Re: The Alien Vision change is a change for the worse
Alien vision is almost like crosshairs, in the way that it can be a very subjective thing for people on which kind they enjoy. If you liked the pre-299 Alien vision (the one with the outlines), you can subscribe to this workshop mod to go back to using it (Or browse the workshop to find one to your liking, there are many!).
Alienvision also turns on by default now, if you wish to turn this feature off you can use NS2+ to do so.

Can we have multiplayer coop? Pleeeeease...?
I mean, how hard can it be?!
(23rd August 2016) Our thoughts on this have become more clear now, as we've added more to the game and see how much work we still have to do on the game.
We are NOT going to be adding multiplayer of any kind to Subnautica. We would have to start over from scratch and it would take us years of work to do it.
I know that's not what you guys want to hear but we have our hands FULL with the basic v1.0 version of Subnautica.
(September 2015) Adding Co-Op or multiplayer is not simple, at all. It would require months of work. We want it to happen, but it would mean we basically stop working on the game right now, and do co-op for months. Currently we'd much rather make a great game first, then see if it's feasible for co-op to happen. That being said, most of us on the team want it to happen. We just can't promise it right now.
(26th May 2016) We would love to add co-op gameplay someday, but it will have to be a new game. It's waaaay too much work to simply "add" to Subnautica. We might make a standalone game focused on co-op (like "Subnautica Together") or maybe we'll make a sequel.
But it's clear that Co-op is something you guys would love and we'd love it too. Imagine piloting your Cyclops with a few people: one at the helm, another repairing/building machinery, another managing fuel and energy systems and another off on small missions in the Seamoth, reporting what they're finding?
I'm not sure how everything works/where things are and the game doesn't tell me anything. Where can I find out?
A huge part of the joy of Subnautica is exploring working things out for yourself, but if you're stuck you can always refer to the Subnautica Wiki page and there's a map here.
Will subnautica be coming to the PS4?
(2nd June 2016) There is a good chance of it, though we're not working on it right now. However, we're exploring the possibility.
(26th May 2016) We would love to bring Subnautica to the PS4. It's an awesome system and Sony seems to treat developers well.
However, they don't have "preview" program. So we can't ship it there until we hit v1.0.
Any chance of getting 60fps?
(27th May 2016) Highly unlikely to hit 60fps on XboxOne, just not technically possible while keeping the game at the visual level we want.
The next update will have some improvements that should be noticeable in some places, but optimizations are not a quick-fix. They are complicated, often take a while and tend to go in towards the end of development so the game and gameplay itself can be a focus. We'll do the best we can as we develop the game to keep improving.
What are you guys working on at the moment?
(28th May 2016) We are working hard on performance as well. Graphics aren't the issue at the moment, it's mostly our streaming system, so we think we can make some noticeable improvements there. Probably not for the first patch, but in the ones after that (we want to get our currently done work on the PC in your hands as soon as possible).
For a detailed and up to date view of everything that's being worked on right now, along with an impressive To Do List, take a look at the Subnautica Development Blog.

The Debug Console
To get around may bugs, especially those that cause items to disappear or not spawn at all (like the blueprint bug) you can use the Debug Console in game to spawn items and perform other actions. To access it, SIMULTANEOUSLY press BR+LB+A on your controller, then enter one of the commands listed here or from this list of spawnable items. This is not a cheat as such and has been recommended by the Developers as a tool to get around bugs, although overuse may diminish your enjoyment of Subnautica.
If you are having any other bug related issues, please post them to the Subnautica Playtesting Blog. Alliteratively, please read @EVILONE15 's pinned and regularly updated Bugs On Xbox thread and post a comment there if your bug that is not mentioned.

Is it normal HMG shots sound like EXO shooting? Really strange choice imo.
the sounds and models etc are placeholder for now IIRC
Re: Update 295 Released! - Natural Selection 2
For those curious:
Lots of players give feedback inadvertently. A lot of the feedback features are built directly into the tools, such as seeing how many people complete the tutorial. It's valuable information. In addition, as a PT lead, I (as well as many of the devs) play with rookies nearly daily, and I converse with them concerning things that would either make them continue playing or things that currently would act to make them stop playing. Not everything is obviously put into action, but a lot of this feedback with the addition of the metrics that are gathered help tremendously in analyzing what does or does not work.
In addition, I read the Steam reviews and Hub, where greenies typically take out frustration on things such as what they view as a toxic community, poor hitreg, and less than stellar performance. I also read the forums, and the ENSL boards, and sometimes the subreddit. I try to remain up to date in the current hubbub of NS2 commentary, criticisms, and complaints. We take into account all feedback regardless of its actual feasibility in implementation because it clears up underlying issues which we can adjust in a shorter period of time and with greater finesse.
That said, I don't appreciate your sarcasm, @wooza . Again, please refrain from stirring the pot. I will not tolerate it.

Re: Update 295 Released! - Natural Selection 2
I am issuing a warning to all of those in the thread (and others) name-calling, malicious prodding, and stirring the pot for the sake of agitating devs or community members. Please refrain from this behavior. If you do not moderate yourselves, I will moderate for you. These forums were established as a civil place to speak, and if you can't speak civilly, you will no longer be able to speak at all.
I am not afraid to silence anyone, playtester, dev, or community member alike. There is no special treatment. You have been warned.

Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
This thread has been sunk already, but I won't hesitate to lock it if it continues to be nasty. I'm just catching up with it after a busy week and there was a ton of naming & shaming and personal attacks. They need to stop here. If your post has personal attacks from here on out, it will be edited or potentially just deleted entirely, regardless of the other content. If you cannot communicate without generally being rude and personally attacking people, either wait to post or don't post at all.
If you guys have PRIVATE issues with someone, the way they run their servers, things they've said to you, etc. you need to address it over PRIVATE messages. Not blasting it all over the forums.
Thanks guys

Re: Bring back the NS2 Large on the default server list
It seems to be a protection for new players that sort servers by player count and pick the first one in the list.
That way they don't have a 64 ticks, huge fps drop, poor hitreg and retarded balance as their first experience.
Those who really like to play on Wooza server will know how to find their way back.
