    Well it would be even better for a few things. 1. We need better bots (bots still in progress) i could see having a single player if at least there was a very nice bot that could comm correctly so 1.0 bot would be nice. Im guessing that you could POSSIBLY ask Flayra for some help on the story line if you wanted to keep the feeling. but ive always dreamed of it. and maybe there could be different types of Kharra (change models maybe)

    This idea was already projected by a team and was relocated to a smart and precise "NO" by Sir Flayra, and you can understand nsteam prefers to think about it by itself. Good luck if you keep on, anyway.

    oOTOo, could you get a quote on that? Because I seem to remember a quote somewhere saying that he didn't mind, as long as it was someone else doing ALL the work for it, meaning AI coding, scripting, levels, everything.

    im confused as to what you for see being difernt from bots on lan becasue almost all of ns is based on teh multi player issue not the ramboing maine which is what single player games are.. so yah i dunno

    Unfortunately, i won't be able to provide any quote about that because it was a semi-private chat on a french ns site (ns-fr.com) and the guy who said Flayra told that was said to be the leader of a french mapping team. To be honest, i didn't know at all that guy before and he might be a mythomaniac only. I had one email with him, when they said they were recruiting, and i didnt get the feeling this guy was very .. convincing. M8 be Flayra had the same feeling. Or might be Flayra never heard at all about him. You understand what i mean ? So, well, i wouln't cut my hand as a proof i trust what i heard. (means possible the guy was telling stories)

    Flayra has said that if someone wants to make a Singler Player NS Mod he doesn't mind

    The NS team however are not making one. But if someone from the community wishes to make one then they will help out (I think)

    I'm quite happy to help out on the mapping side of a single player endeavour. But if that's going to happen, I'd like to see a basic team set up, and a design document and an outline of the story before I commit myself.     old topics never die, they just get bumped, and i am gald some 1 went througth the forums, and found this post

    at the moment i am peronaly working on some ai, though i might contct rcbot team (i made semi german conversion of it) and ask them for the source, so i can poor over it, and see what can be made

    i have also started work on a few maps, they are walk through style, so perfect for sp, of course i will have to think up more on the topic as it has had some CPR

    in one of the custom maps, you have to build the cc, before you can get in it - so i belive that you can place sturctuers for the to be built

    years ago i got the message "game saved" during a lan-game... dont know wether it really works or some admin was just bullshittin us... but that might be a possibilty to create bases for sp, like building all the stuff, save it and start it again for sp...

    i think it would be great if for the SP storyline there could be used rob6264 story as a basis. It would be great to have first a good scritp before trying anything out.

    OK, im back again

    what i think of a NS SP:
    what we would need:
    -first, a normal SP start, i mean, you join the game and it begins.. like a SP, actualy it begins like a MP..
    -many new scripting options
    -a at least basic AI, we can script many things

    with that we can begin...

    how i would see the SP game:

    -First contact (jea, you can imagine how it would be)
    -many, many mission in the style of:
    a lone marine becomes waypoints in a more or less one way level, i would make the entire thing a little bit like Alien vs Predator, but with NS elements, like, build RTs, defends buildings/rooms build several other stuf, find a Hive, destroy a hive etc, would be fun
    a final mission were we destroy the aliens..

    but a alien campain would also be funny, and i think, even easier to do, we would need less scripting.. and when i say less, i realy mean less.
    all the COM stuff would be gone, you run around in a level with already built stuff, you can add marines, and a marine AI isnt that complicated

    I would focus in that SP on FPS, wich means, not to many buildings, perhaps a base or so, but not as much as in the MP.
    Buildings would be much more the mission objectives, like:
    -go in the commando center and build an observatory
    -go to wayppoint and build RT
    defend building XY

    also, i would say that in a SP you would be most of the time alone, simply because its much harder to code and map with AI helpers.
    And also, when the enemy AI is dumb, its not so tragic, they die very fast

    I always imagined single player like this:
    You spawn in and get one of those obviously scripted but not so cinematic cutscenes (ala Half-Life) where the comm briefs you and tells you something like, "Now that we have enough, we need to get settled in. There is a resource nozzle just to the West of here.... here's the waypoint." (**** little help messages pop up) "If you can make it there alive, we can get the res flowin and we'll be outta here before you can say Gorge in a hat." and then carry out the order. Most aspects of the game will be introduced that way, to where you still feel like it's part of the game and not so much a hazard course. I think Asraniel has the same idea pretty much.

    I can't really help (except maybe with writing screenplay? lol) but I'll be on the sidelines cheering

    Urgent attention TSA high command

    It’s been 100 years after we rid the Kahrra from the settlement Hera… It was a long and hard battle with the xenon race getting into the most well defended locations with in the pilot asteroid colony

    We have come back, God forbidding, checking, checking for the toxins that we let loss, checking that these toxins have in fact killed any unfound Kharra spores.

    It’s been the second day; we still have to re wire the asteroids power network, and find a working interface node for our data network. Even though the old tech is still stored in the mass databases on earth, fusing the old tech with the new tech is still an issue.
    We are experiencing small issues with our motion tracking, of a bout 10 milliseconds, I believe the toxins we are looking for is causing this issue, though the tech is working on a motion tracking array, that will cut this time down to 7 milliseconds, and show all un human life forms, larger then the known Kharra webs.

    “Commander, we are coming on the Data Core Delta…”
    “OK marine, careful this was a key hive location, watch your back…”
    “Roger that commander.”

    Unknown to us then was there was a skulk in infinite gestation, locked between the now dead infestation spores, and the murky water of the data core coolant, spilt over the now rusted metal plating of the data core floor.

    As we came into the data core delta, we heard, and saw our death coming. The stagnate coolant was rippled by the 5 of us passing over the dead infestation, our flash lights swept over the cocoon of some beast, then the cocoon burst, showing us our death, the sound of its de gestation was horrific, but the mauling it did to us was worse, lucky we had with us level 3 ammunition, researched on board just hours before we left command. The Kharra skulk took 4 men down, and left me for dead, but we all but destroyed it.

    This message must reach the TSA high command to let them know of a possible re infestation of the Kharra race. We will hold any more frozen gestations attacks that we can, though with the 5 of us serving the original attack, I believe it will be a short battle, with us on the losing end.

    The NS Team to help with code work, possibly making NS 1.2 compatible code, so we can work in scripted, and SP stuff
    OR
    Make a mod using ns models, sounds, sprites, etc, though doing a completely different lot of code – though this won’t have options like commander mode, way pointing, and all the stuff that makes ns what it is.

    What it is

    Single player version of the Natural Selection RTS/FPS mod for half-life

    What team you play

    I hope both teams, though marine is probably the easiest, as you get to shot the aliens, and the story line is from the TSA marine point of view

    How do upgrades work?

    Planning on making a certain amount of maps into a mission, where collected resources are traded in for items, and upgrades – this would be a combination of ns 1 – 1.04 Kharra build in the grog, and the upgrade options of the marines – such as having the ability to call on jump jets, or a HMG, if the rules are met for items to be dropped, also the ability to call on resource towers to be dropped, to collect resources at empty resource nodes. Phase gates might be out of the SP, though they could be used well, yet the question is how?

    are you shure that the NS Team helps us? would be cool, but i think Flayra has other thins to do.
    The question is, is it possible to write a dll that makes all the SP part for us?

    mmm i never said i will contribute, i was just trying to give ideas but HEY, yeah i dont mind helping you guys. THe only thing that concerns me about all this is what happens to every single project through the internet, all starts will "yeah cammon itll rock" and ends up most of the times in "hey i got lots of work i cant help sorry guys". Adding more, id also say that i wish only to help if there is a real good project behind you see, i (as most pple here) dont wanna waste my time workling in something that in the end is just plain sick. Bad maps, bad cinematics, bad script (which is mostly the core of the SP) and as a result, bad SP.

    Im not flaming /and/or yelling at anyone or doubting about the team, i just say that if we are to do this, we are to keep it as high quality work as we all know NS is, if not, its just a waste of time.

    About the maps well you see SP can get up to 900 r_speeds and still be playable so maps can now have alot more detail, which is one of the things that makes me happy to try.

    Yes I agree with blueman... there should be some kind quality test for joining and everyone must have some
    project to do and have some previous work to show just like in real mod team etc. I dont want to waste my time either if I get to work with this SP addon.

    ok then, i do understand the hole idea behind a community project going under - the only 1 i have been on that is still alive is the sven coop comm map, and thats because alot of muture minded people are working on it

    ok qa test - please provide a few screens, and tell us what version of liuk's map pack your map is in, so we can look at it, and go hoo dang this is sweet as, or WTH, is this a map?

    for me i took screens down to save web space at geo, though ns_edan_v1 / v2 liku's map pack 2, and patch 2.1, ns_lavapitsx - alpha map, still testing with bots - though first run screens can be found some where on these forums

    other mod map screens found at the link that the AMMAHLS banner goes too.
