do you want to get sued? :P

although if that new aliens coloniel marines game sux then this would be the perfect engine for a mod such as this

Before NS1, there was a Quake Aliens mod. It got 'cease-and-desist'ed to death. Aliens as an IP belong to 20th Century Fox and as such, youre on very dodgy ground if you make an Aliens mod.

Now THAT's a good reason to make such a mod ;-)

    This would be very cool.

You can mod the babblers to be face huggers, and the weird looking crag thing can be the egg xD

That would be funny because 20th Century Fox didn't give HR Giger (the artist who designed the Aliens for the first movie) any credit for the sequals.

Aliens IP might belong to Fox but you could say the mod is inspired by Giger's non-Alien artwork.

It would still be cool even if they weren't 100% similar to the Aliens in the movie

i have a good aliens skin pack for ns1. it has redesigned skins for all the weapons, structures and players, not sure if there was legal issues surrounding it but it actually made the game a little more enjoyable for me. if a modder just makes a skin pack but dosnt use the "Aliens" name in it i cant imagine what legal issues could arise... its not like its UWE's fault.

Well they have made a new AvP, so im sure someone whit alittle knowhow could transfer the models into 3DMAX or something, and then make em work in NS2... I dunno, but the "highres" models have allready been created so you "just" need to transfer em :)

Makes me laugh, people talking about the legal issues of an official mod, when all you've ever had for NS was just custom skins and soundpacks.

Migrating the NS1 stuff should be doable, but to be honest I think people are expeting something a bit more high poly.

I don't have the time to get back into modding, and if I did I'd only spend it on learning how to script things up for my own amusement. Good luck to whoever decides to make a pack worthy of NS2 though.

    Also, ZOMG HAI! to SheenaYanai!

As long as its a free mod and you credit Giger/20thFox for the original design, you should be on safe legal ground.

I used the alien marine pack all the time :) The marine skins looked great and was a little more high res than the defaults :)

how isit a legal issue when all ur doing is changing the skins to something else, its just a mod for self entertainment purposes. You're not selling the mod, you're not making ANY profit off it. Neither is UWE, they did not package the game or are making any profit off the custom skin which was made by a 3rd party user.

So it sounds as if they have got no case here.

    <a href="http://thecobrapit.com/NS/lerk-2.jpg" target="_blank">http://thecobrapit.com/NS/lerk-2.jpg</a>

    <a href="http://thecobrapit.com/NS/alien%20hive-web-2.jpg" target="_blank">http://thecobrapit.com/NS/alien%20hive-web-2.jpg</a>

And the classic Alien Behemoth to replace the Onos :)
    <a href="http://thecobrapit.com/NS/behemoth-2.jpg" target="_blank">http://thecobrapit.com/NS/behemoth-2.jpg</a>

I don't have any pics of the converted skulk alien but that one was one of my favorites (alongside the Behemoth).

Who's up for starting a contribution fund to hire a 3D artist to create some alien-style models for NS2 for us?? (not directly similar to ridley scott's aliens, but maybe close). :)

I might throw together a xenomorph for this at some point. Some of my fave films and I haven't modelled anything from it yet.. could be fun.

Even tho I think it'd work better as an actual mod rather than just model replacements. Something like AVP2 without the preds.

if you want to make a mod, make sure you are in sweden. Legal issues don't matter to the swedish (I.E PIRATE BAY)

If the Mod is free, they cant do anything, if they are making money of it they are required to have a license from Fox.

I think that is part of the DMCA.

    That's quite the thread necromancy.
But yeah, the Alien models were awesome, not to speak of the Starcraft models.
    Man I should've kept a proper archive.

... I still have the old NS1 models, funnily enough - and the Predator one I did too.

I have bits and pieces of the Starcraft one, back when I was helping with the animations. It's a shame that project didn't take off, and unfortunately I was too busy soloing my Aliens/Predator ones to pick up the ball for it.

    Ah, good times.
