That's fantastic. I love the textured feel.

I like the uniformity of the "safety rails" everywhere, which is a good nod to on-site mining safety requirements. I also like how all the tunnels and shafts all have the same "bored out" look, though it does make me question how the heck the repositioned that giant fixed drill to make them all. Also, all those guys in jumpsuits are OC bait when my gorgie rolls though. Aw yeah.

Can we get some HD res / widescreen shots? 1920x1080 would be awesome.

4 most common primary display resolutions according to the steam hardware survey: 1280x1024, 1024x768, 1680x1050, 1440x900

I mean, it's not as bad as Valve doing this with tf2 wallpapers, since it is their survey, but still.

I love the realistic feel of the art in this game, and this wallpaper in particular.
I'll add it to my collection!

It would be fun if these workers would be ingame as game AI :D and skulks could eat them and get a bit of HP boost or Marines would try to rescue them :D

P.S. if not there should definitely be their body laying around rip'd apart and limbs laying all around the room. lol i am getting excited :D

Please, please, please make the drill operational so that when booted up (using your electricity system described in one of your blogs) it totally DESTROYS the omnious silience that would otherwise exist. Compare the feeling I'm trying to convey to that of walking through a dark, abandoned house and then stepping into some aluminium cans that the previous owned had stack above a staircase. The silience that before was eerie and frightning you will miss in the place of the sudden alarming noise.
"TURN IT OFF, TURN IT OFF!"

4 small pieces of railing between workers and a massive drill? The company's really pushing it far, employee safty-wise! :D
no, It's really cool, keep cranking out those sweet wallpapers! I just set it as the wallpaper of 10 different friends :) Spreading the word of NS2.

How about some holes in the ceiling for lerks and skulks to peer out of?

An ingame screenshot would've been cooler. But I still don't mine adding this to my rotating NS2 concept art wallpaper folder. It still looks very cool.

Nice art, this new map will be based on the old "Mineshaft" or in the "Bast" (refinery)?
• TekoppenTekoppen Join Date: 2008-02-05 Member: 63584Members, NS2 Playtester, Reinforced - Shadow, Subnautica Playtester
I can't help thinking, It looks quite big and empty.

Thinking of the size of the humans working there the room looks really big.
I hope it's not the entire map? (since the maps is going to be smaller then in Natural Selection)

Keep in mind, this is artwork. Artwork != Realistic Final Product.

They will tweak and modify it but they also need to give enough room in some areas to allow for some competitive moving.

What he said.

And, the only thing that seems missing from this environment is some kind of tracks or repositionable floor panels that would be used to push around carts of equipment or tools (or for small vehicles to drive on). Though maybe nobody pushes anything around anymore -- it just materializes where needed. But then there's the guy with the hand-held toolbox. *shrug*

OMG! I can't believe so many people where complaining about the resolutions. People will always find something dumb to complain about... Thanks Daworm for giving them the bottle though.

About the art. My opinions and critiques.
*I love the huge feeling of the room. Hope it ends up with that same feel.

*I looks beautiful and very atmospheric but...

-The safety rails at the bottom of the drill really look out of place. Seems like they are too close to the drill. Almost like they soon will need to stop drilling, expand the perimeter, and then continue. Come to think of it the whole drill structure doesn't make that much sense they way it comes from the ceiling almost suggest a gigantic mobile machine beyond that roof.

-The fan, the drill, the safety rails, and pretty much like the whole room seems like they are there to stay at least for a few months. However it looks like the drill could do its job in a few hours max. Like going a few meters down and then back up.

-Maybe the idea IS to make it feel unconventional and alien compared to what we know today. But for me it still at least needs to make mechanical sense. Like the guy on the drill, I like him. Normally you probably wouldn't be ON the drill taking notes and monitoring data or whatnot, but it makes sense! That's what he's doing and its need to be done. unconventional and alien... but makes sense... I like that.

-Sorry if that felt picky but I'm an Engineer (Mechanical to boot) and well these things probably jump out and bother me more than you're average poster here. Hope it was helpful at least. Don't get me wrong, I vote gameplay over atmosphere, but if you're going for both then MUCH better!

*Some back story or overview of your thinking behind this would clear up somethings. Are they drilling to make holes/space? Are they drilling for minerals/nanites? What are the big dark holes on the bottom right for?

Also, would be super interesting if the drill would be able to be lifted and lowered by the players. Opening and closing access to the space below this room... which could be khaara made tunnels. BUT it should not be as easy or quick as elevator in NS. That quick back and forth with elevator was interesting at times but got really annoying at other times.

I guess some of the deadlines might have to do with PAX that starts today. Thanks for the wallpaper.
