<!--sizeo:7--><span style="font-size:36pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->This is night 1, no posting!<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

"You have all been brought together for a simple purpose," Bmobtrams told the group. "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to clear out the whatever it is inhabiting Cave Jakratlan, otherwise known as the Cave of Doom."

"Ooh, scary," <b>Mantrid</b> said from near the back of the room. <b>Lanfear</b> and <b>Krad</b> laughed with him.

"You think this is a joke?" Bmobtrams asked. "Quite a few people have died in this cave. "In fact, not a single person has gone in further than the entryway and come out alive." The mood immediately became more serious. "First, we'll cover some of the dangers and the precautions that we'll try to have for you. This information has been gathered by people going in with radios and reporting back to us, in case you were wondering. First, there seem to be some areas that trigger toxic gases. From the brief information we've received on them, they seem to be strategically placed. You will each have several gas masks with you, they should provide some protection. However, the bigger source of danger seems to be a big creature of some sort. Whenever it shows up, everything goes silent. We don't know if this is due to a failure of electronic equipment or if it is caused by everyone suddenly dying." A shudder went through the room at those words. "We're going to send you with some devices that will constantly transmit a buzzing back to us, so this time we will find out for sure what type of problem it is."

"That's very comforting," <b>Mantrid</b> responded.

"So, why are we entering this death trap?" asked <b>Krad</b>.

"I'm getting to that," Bmobtrams told them. "We have some readings indicating that there is Terintium inside the cave." Everyone stared at him blankly. "Basically, Terintium can be used to create a warp drive. This would make it easier to inhabit other planets, get much-needed resources from them, and many other things. As far as all of you are concerned, it means that if you succeed, you will each end up with more money than you could possibly use.

"Based on your background, we believe that you are all suitably prepared for this mission. If you want to back out, now is your chance." Everyone looked around the room at each other. First Freak83 got up and walked out of the room. Then Soul Rider and Swiftspear followed suit. No one else moved. "Now that that's settled, it's time for you to head over the cave."

Night 1 will end Saturday, 11pm PST. Everyone <strike>will get PMs with their roles shortly</strike> has received their PM; if you need to send me a PM, do so.

    <!--sizeo:7--><span style="font-size:36pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Day 1<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

The group arrived at the Cave of Doom, and everyone still on the mission got out of the helicopters. "Good luck," Bmobtrams told them, right before the helicopters took off again.

The group started toward the cave. "It looks like a typical cave," <b>Petco</b> commented. "We should be out of here in no time at all."

"So, you don't think it will be as bad as Bmobtrams described it then?" <b>ZeroByte</b> asked?

"It might be a little dangerous, but I'm sure we can handle it," <b>Petco</b> responded.

They started into the cave. Most of the people turned on their flashlights immediately due to the low lighting in the cave. "At the very least, people seem to be fairly safe in the entryway, from what Bmobtrams told us," <b>Comprox</b> said. "There appear to be four main passageways that we could start exploring. From the way Bmobtrams described it, we probably shouldn't split up."

"You're taking too long thinking about it," <b>Petco</b> said. "Let's just start exploring." <b>Petco</b> wandered off toward one of the paths, completely unconcerned with his safety. When he started getting further away from them, Comprox said, "You're going to get yourself killed."

"Stop worrying so much, we haven't even gone that far into the cave yeaaahhhh..." <b><!--coloro:red--><span style="color:red"><!--/coloro-->Petco<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b> screamed as he was clearly hit by something. The group ran up to where he was, then started charging down the passageway he had just started to enter. They had been running for about five seconds when something big and solid came toward them very quickly. <b>GrayDuck</b> jumped out of the way, but it hit <b>Lanfear</b>, who was knocked back quite a bit, knocking several other people over. They looked at <b>Lanfear</b>, and saw that <b><!--coloro:red--><span style="color:red"><!--/coloro-->Lanfear<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b> was dead.

"Did anybody see what that was?" Asked <b>Comprox</b>. Everyone looked around, but no one had any idea what it was. "Let's move back to the entryway, before any more of us end up dead."

Soo...This thread has been viewed 65 times as of this post, and nobody's broken the ice yet?

Now I'm not sure how you guys do things 'round here, so maybe you're all on IM Messengers or the IRC Channel or something, but I'm used to playing werewolf games where discussion in the forums is abundant.

    ....Oh.

I just looked at the time Day 1 was posted.

    My bad, y'all.

    Sorry, was off baking Ginger Bread men <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Just a brain dump here(Im thinking about it, like the story says I do <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ):

Since I haven't played this since round 1, I went to see how good the 2 players that got killed were. Petco has hosted a round and Lanfear doesn't have a sig so Im not too sure. On the whole, both dont look like very experienced players, which doesn't mean a heck of a lot.

What means more to me, is only 2 people got killed. The first tells me the Vigilante either chose not to kill anyone or was away. In the pre-game thread Razor did not post and generally has not been seen yet, raising him as a possibility.

Now, if the psychopath did not kill anyone, this could be by choice or awayness again, which doesn't tell me much, maybe Razor again.

If the wolves or mafia were the ones not to do a kill last night, this tells me more. This was probably a decision not to do so, since all 3 players have to decide together. Even if one or two were away, someone on the team could have voted. Now why one would not kill anyone i this game which will be killing people at a rapid pace I personally don't get, but I hear not wolfing/mafiaing can be advantageous sometimes so again this doesn't tell me a whole lot. Has this tactic of not killing during the night been used in any of the other games that I missed? Don't feel like reading through them all.

ADDED (sorry, stupid auto-add to post if less than 5 minutes or whatever):

Well crap, that whole post was basically nullified as someone kindly reminded me of the Guardian and the potential they saved someone. Sigh.

Well, not much to go on so far, and im_lost is hosting, so can't vote for him :/

IIRC Petco has played a good few games before, just not lasted until the end. Not sure about Lanfear.

There are too many possibilities to count atm, here are just a few:

    - {Wolves/psycho/mafia} tried to kill {mafia/psycho/wolf} and {psycho/mafia/wolf} got killed on a 50/50 roll.
    - Guardian save against vigilante/wolf/psycho
    - Vigilante decided not to make a move with so little info; wolves and psycho got their respective men

The last explanation is the most probable imo, but this still doesn't explain why there weren't 3 deaths last night (1 mafia kill, 1 wolf kill and 1 psycho kill). Someone must have missed, the question is: who?

P.S. What happens if the Mafia/Wolves/Psycho and Wolves/Psycho/Mafia go for the same person? Who dies and who gets told what?
  • KradKrad Join Date: 2004-08-26 Member: 30914Members
Well, since this is my first game, and the only games I've read have had only wolves and not all these fancy roles, I'm a little unsure what SHOULD have happened last night.

How many people were SUPPOSED to be killed, if all groups voted?

Following Crispy's question of 'what if everyone votes for the same person', if two groups vote for the same person, and the guardian chooses him, is that person still saved, or will he die?

The dynamics of this game are a bit more than I'm used to to say the least <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
  • NurotNurot Join Date: 2003-12-04 Member: 23932Members, Constellation
Krad if all roles voted then 4 in theory should have died but there are many exceptions, including the same groups killing the same person, or a gaurdian save.
  • ComproxComprox *chortle* Canada Join Date: 2002-01-23 Member: 7Members, Super Administrators, Forum Admins, NS1 Playtester, NS2 Developer, Constellation, NS2 Playtester, Reinforced - Shadow, WC 2013 - Silver, Subnautica Developer, Subnautica Playtester, Pistachionauts
I really shouldnt post at 2am. The wolves/mafia/psyco/vigilante could of also picked the same person which means they die. In theory, all 4 groups/people could of picked during the night, but if they all picked the same 2 people, then just those 2 die.

    Man this game is confusing.
  • OmegamanOmegaman Join Date: 2004-01-11 Member: 25239Members
My guess is the Vigilante, not having anyone to be suspicious of being a wolf or mafia or psychopath, chose not to kill. I know that's what I would have done.

Now as for the missing kill...
It's likely that the Psychopath might have just been inactive and didn't send in a kill.

But it' also just as likely that there was a guarding. Now the way I see it is this: On Night 1, there's usually a good chance the bad guys will kill off the best players. The best players are usually the ones with the most experience in playing. Now following this, if there was a guarding, I hypothesize that the person guarded was a top-tier player, and the guardian and wolves/mafia/psycho were knowledgable enough to at least know this and to pick them for Night 1. Which means it's not likely the guardian role belongs to someone who hasn't played here before (people like me).

Lots of assumptions, but that's how I see it. It makes more sense than a wolf/mafia/psycho picking someone not-so-good and the guardian guarding not-so-good people.

Are you getting what I'm saying here?
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
Clearing up some rules, in case there is still confusion. The mafia, werewolves, and psychopath have to pick targets each night. If for some reason they don't send one in, it is picked randomly for them.

Another question was asked: what if multiple sides pick the same target? That target would die, nothing else would happen.
  • XentorXentor Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5877Members
I agree with Omega on the vigilante holding back the first night. Trouble is, I don't see how we can locate any roles quite yet. Best we can hope for is to find a probable human through the reasoning others posted, but there are still far too many choices at this point...

Ok, thanks for the info im_lost. That means that there is a good chance the Vigilante did not kill anyone last night.

Now, that leaves the question: Did 2 of the wolves/mafia/psycho pick the same person, or did the guardian protect one of the supposed to die people? Either

I have a question for the host. Does the guardian know who he protected got saved? It seems to me if the guardian did indeed save someone and not get informed, the guardian would have no idea if he saved the person.

Scenarios (I'm assuming vigilante didn't pick anyone)

    1) 3 targets chosen, 1 saved. Guardian gets informed that he saved someone.

    2) 3 targets chosen, 2 were the same people. Guardian didn't save.

In the end, the guardian role is pretty useless because the guardian cannot trust whether he saved a mafia, human, psychopath, or a werewolf. All he did is just stall at this point.
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
The guardian does not get informed if they save someone. (I knew this question had been asked before (in the host election thread), it was only now that I discovered I didn't actually answer it.)

If the Forensic Specialist examines that person, which would show up as having killed them?

The Forensic Specialist checks what role the dead person had, not what killed them.

why are the days so loong and the nights so short?

    This is a goofy cave.

A real question though, what now - we vote for one person, someone we think is 'bad'?? Or do we vote for 3 bad people since there are 3 bad roles? or is it 4.... but some roles have multiple players... this isn't a very good 'first' game.
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
The nights are shorter because everyone just has to make a decision, and that's it. During the days, people need time to see what each other say and respond.

As far as voting, you are voting for a single person. The person with the most votes will die at the end of the day. Even if you know of multiple people that need to be voted off, you still only get to vote out one person per day. In addition, everyone has to vote, or they are penalized with a "phantom" vote that stays with them for every remaining day of the game. Also, if you vote for someone, you can only remove your vote from them by voting for someone else. Votes are done using <b>bold</b> text, as done above.
  • MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
I don't have a lot to go on, but since <b>GrayDuck</b> is concerned about the nights being short, that implies being a possible wolf/mafia/psycopath.

There still is the possibility that the same target was picked twice. Not sure which of these 2 scenaros would have a higher probability.

I'm voting for <b>Cold-Nite</b> because he hasn't posted yet. If anyone else is one of those people that doesn't feel anyone is suspicious, I encourage you to vote for people that haven't posted yet, and pressure them into speaking up. Wolves/Mafia/Psychos win games by not attracting attention, so the less someone posts, the more suspicious they become in my eyes.

Alright so what we know so far wolves/mafia/and psychopath all had targets, the gaurdian saved one of said targets, probability says the vigilante choose not to kill someone, its possible he choose the same target as the w/m/p though and Im assuming the martyr hasn't started using his power, unless of course the martyr was by luck killed on night one.
