old school gamers rejoice!
I was a little worried about SimCity 4, but then I read this review over at UGO and that pretty much eased my thoughts and put me into vigorous anticipation. I never liked SimCity 2000 or 3000 that much, but man oh man was I addicted to the original...

The thing that I think is the coolest is they've made it easier for the casual (read: Not obsessive compulsive) gamer by reducing the micromanagement required to play. I.e. you don't have to build every single little road in the game manually, that can happen automagically. But of course for those of you who like to count the toothpicks in the little cup thing, you can turn these features off and do it all yourself just like old times.

I highly recommend you read the above review of said game, and then check out their screenshots and the movie clip of the game. Quite impressive stuff.

Now if they would just make a new Out Of This World it'd be 1993 all over again...

I liked the 2000 and 3000 versions of the game and this version looks like its gonna be great also. Its graphics are also very nice for the sim city games seeing as theyve always been a little sub par for the times when they were released. Looks like raining disasters on a little metropolis of my own will be better than ever.

Besides Half Life, I have logged more time on the Sim City games then any others. Micromanagement, macromanagement, humor, graphics, and some of the best music ever. Mmm...

Bah, graphics do not matter, it is all about music and gameplay. And Simcity and 2000 had them both.

Well, maybe for you SimCity had bad graphics. But halfway through my addiction to it, I moved to Seattle. And guess what? I started recognizing buildings out of the game, since Maxis was in Seattle (I think). One of the best things I ever got out of a computer game.

    Let me translate:

NR2 (sorry, one would think he would talk about Sim City but...) was the best, with a little *some sort of sound the game (or whatever) made* my mate!

This review has made me crave my sim games again. I think it's fair enough to say that SimCity 4000 will hail the coming of the new baby jesus, and I can't bloody wait. I'm going to go play Railroad Tycoon 2 or something, or simcity 2000

I have Simtower around here somewhere, but the way Maxis is milking The Sims makes me shirk in horror.

Milking? Its still one of the biggest selling games out there. And they are adding new content and etc. The game may not appeal to you (it sure doesn't to me), but there's no denying the fact that its a strong product. Besides, Maxis has been known to milk the Sim area in many many worse ways. SimAnt anyone? heh.

Oh and I *loved* SimTower! Almost as much as the original SimCity!

Yes, I suppose I forgot to consider other people's point of view, but I'm entitled to my own opinion too (I think, maybe, probably not)! Strong products however, are not always the best products. Protesting with my Sim in front of a McDonald's isn't exactly my idea of a good time, of course that too is my preference. Blasted POV.

However, SimTower is great fun, I had heard a rumor (I don't remember where) about a new SimTower coming out I'm not sure if it was substantiated..

Indeed you are, just remember to keep an open mind and whatnot and realize that other people's tastes are not your own. I didn't like the Sims either, but I do understand that it appeals to a broad audience, and even helps bring in new players to the world of gaming who previously didn't know/care about it.

For example, I feel a similar way about Counter-Strike, when obviously I'm not in the majority. Its just a personal taste: the gameplay doesn't appeal to me. So its the same with The Sims with you.

Does that make everyone else an idiot? No, clearly not. There are many, many other reasons why everyone else is an idiot.

The sims appeals a lot to female gamers which is always a good things. Its one of the few games my gf will play.

Sims was one of the best games I ever play. For an hour and a half. Then it was just plain crappy.

I havent read all the posts yet, so disregard this if already said, but am i the only person who thinks that the sim anything thing has gone on way to long with more then to many versions, its the same thing over and over again with only what you do different, i know this sounds a lot like fps's or other games of that caliber, but seriously, they are such horrible games
  • DracosDracos Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4806Members
The problem with fps is there lots of crappy ones made by lots of companys. The problem with the sims is its a lot of the same from the same company and they are probably making yet another expansion pack right now

I played simcity (on Amiga 500!!!), SC2000 and 3000 for countless hours. Now my mouth is watering with anticipation.
