Just when I felt smart, something like this comes around and makes me feel like an idiot. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    In my book yes.

To be fair; I figured it out, and thus I understand that strange strange name.

So... I guess I should be happy that I never figured it out, and instead just got **** off at it and quit?

Huzzah, after a subtle hint from comprox I have figured out the game.

All I did was look at the answers given for several examples, and then I figured the pattern. I didn't even bother to try with the first examples.

I hate having to learn through failures.

The only thing I've managed to figure out so far is that all of the answers are even numbers, that has to mean something...

God, I finally got it. So simple I'm kicking myself...I tried averages, using the number on opposite faces, some really weird addition-sutraction-division crap...Ugh...

I'll just say that another way to look at the problem is using the title "stars around the moon". Try to stay simple

I got it on the second try after a hint from Cereal Killer. Its one of those things that you have to be in the right mindset to figure out.
  • DarkDudeDarkDude Join Date: 2003-08-06 Member: 19088Members
Ahah! Got it! I think Seph's hint was the best, think stars around the moon and you should get it.

so it basically tells you that "if you figure it out early on, you're not that smart"

after 3 tries I figured it out (only because it TELLS YOU the answer after each guess)

I think if I didn't have that hint it would have taken me about 30 minutes of guess & checking to consistently get the right answer.

I googled for it and although didn't find the answer the googled results emphasised the importance of the name and now I get it...yey

I wouldn't put any faith behind that.

It's coming from a guy that took a YEAR to figure it out.

    What's the more likely scenario:
    1. That the test has some intrinsic property that makes it confusing to smart people and easy for dumb people.
    2. A college professor is covering up for the fact that he's retarded yet still teaching.

    3. He phrased his meaning poorly.

I could believe that certain problem solving methods commonly used by people who do well in usually difficult subjects disadvantage them when other problem solving methods are nessesary.

In other words, I haven't gotten it yet.

EDIT: Alright I finally got it (about a half hour's work). I don't think I ever would have without the hints though because I never would have considered the name to have any meaning. I can see how it could take someone a long time without that bit of info.

It really eludes me right now how this can take alot of time to figure out. You'd have to be amazingly competitive at just a little flash game to look too deep.

You can really figure out some interesting things from this test. I'm guessing that most of the people that got this right away are artsy and are real spur-of-the-moment thinkers while the people who have struggled with it are more mathmatical problem solvers that think things through.

I've been termed in the past as a "creative problem solver". So I guess I cover both of those bases.

Granted that this puzzle would have been harder without the name. But the fact is that the name was there and it just SCREAMS the solution.
