Anyone watch movies?
Yeah Lord of the Rings cleaned up. Even if you like the films you have to admit that they didn't deserve that many oscars. I hate it when the academy goes and picks one movie to dominate the year and gives out the 'small' oscars to the big winner to pad the stats. That DVD cover looks so much better with "Winner of 48 academy awards" instead of just "Academy Awards picture of the year 2003". Best quote from foreign film winner from Canada - "I'm so glad that Lord of the Rings didn't qualify for this category". Also humorous was when they announced that this was Canada's first Oscar, third nomination. I don't want to do the research but I'm pretty sure a ton of Canadians have won Oscars. I know they were talking about the foreign film award in particular, but it sounded funny none the less.
On the up side, Will Farrell and Jack Black performed, and were predictably hilarious. Same for Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara performing their nominated song from A Mighty Wind.
Bill Murray lost to Sean Penn for best actor which hurt (although I hear Penn was very good in Mystic River), but at least Sophia won for screenplay (I love Lost in Translation).
