Sorry for this rant, i guarentee i will end up getting flamed for it, but i just want it off my chest.
I hate Christmas. Seriously.
First of all, i'm not religious at all, so that rules out any involvement i may have with the holiday on it's "true" meaning. I don't mean to spark a religious discussion here at all, this isn't the place, this is just a fact.
If i could just say "Sorry, i don't believe in the meaning of Christmas, so i won't be buying you presents this year", i'd be happy. But no. It makes me feel too sodding bad. I feel because other people are buying me presents, i have to buy them something. I hate it, it's so forced. I don't have a clue what to buy my parents, they are the WORST people to buy anything for. So i never end up getting them anything that they want or will find useful. So essentially, i've just wasted my money on something they'll throw in the cupboard and will never see the light of day again.
I really can't stand being forced to buy people crap. I'm not a skinflint, i am actually a generous person when i have the money to spare, but i just don't see why
i should buy people things for no reason i believe in at all. Let's run through my list of stuff i have chosen for people.
My dad: Golf accessories. He plays about 3 times a week so no problem there this year.
My mum: No idea. Seriously. None.
My brother: Not a clue, he has virtually everything he needs, and what he does need i couldn't possibly afford (At present, new furniture for his house, etc).
My nephew: Not a clue, i usually leave this up to my parents since i have no clue what 2 year olds want
My girlfriend: Some rare Nightmare Before Christmas collectables, View Askew collectables, a song i wrote and am about to record for her, not sure what else.
Barring my girlfriend, none of this is of any real value, it'll just result in the usual tense "Oh, great... thanks" reply that everyone gives at Christmas for unwanted crap. I'm actually trying to give my girlfriend something that money can't buy. But anyway, moving onto my next point.
"The season of goodwill"
Shut up, i will staple your forhead to a car for bringing this up to me. People act like arseholes and jerks all year round, what makes this day any different. Someone who is being a total moron might stop and be nice for a day, but it's fake. It's forced. I prefer people to be honest than just lie straight out to your face. If you act like a moron on any other day, why not act like a moron on December 25th, it would make everyone feel better not to be lied to.
But anyway, that's the end of my nonsense ramblings.
*Dons flameproof overalls*
*EDIT: Can anyone give me a valid
reason as to why i should celebrate Christmas (Read: buy presents) other than through obligation or guilt. Remember though, i've already stated i'm not religious, and that's not going to change any time soon.
