a question of morality
I'm sure everyone's familiar with the dilemma surrounding permission vs stealing other modelers' work. If I wanted to make a hackjob based on Modeler X and Modeler Y's models, and cannot reach Modeler X, even though Modeler Y says yes, what's there to do?
In a simple cut-and-dried response, the answer would be no. However, how simple can one base it when they cannot reach the modeler in question?
How do they understand the modeler's motives if they cannot contact them?
Now here's my situation. I have a bunch of models from the Project Timeless mod. I've asked the mod leader for permission to use them, and have been redirected to Warbeast, the creator of the models in question. I also have contacted the makers of a MAC-11 model and a TMP model. They have since responded with their thanks and request that I credit them. I have done so.
So now I'm stuck with a collaboration between three modelers and two skinners, and all but one have given me a "yes". I haven't been able to contact Warbeast via his site or by email.
So now I ask the question to my fellow modelers: Is it alright to release or not? And to my fellow hackjobbers: What would you do in this situation?
