double check the first part of the location, and, next time put that near the top

The wad files need to be on the current drive (specified by changing directories) because the path specified by the Hammer map exporter doesn't include the drive letter in the wad paths, e.g. "\sierra\half-life\ns\cached.wad".

There are three ways to fix this: hand edit your exported map file (it's plain text) by adding the drive letter to the paths, move the wads to the drive you have activated as current when you compile and retarget them there from Hammer so that the exported paths are updated, or cd to the drive letter that the wad files are on before running the tools.

This is what I did. I moved all my wad files to D:\wads (my other harddrive). Did not get the D: part, then try putting it right on the harddrive, that did not work. How do I "or cd to the drive letter that the wad files are on before running the tools. "

its a problem with the relative path.
it should not be that relative.
did you tell your compiler were NS or HL is installed?

and dont use more than 8 different wads. random evil errors happen.

Just did both ollj, no luck.

Well the tools are executed from C:\... and a path beginning with a backslash tells Windows to go from the drive letter. So no matter what you do as long as the drive letter is not set to H: you wont have any luck. I am a QuArKer and iirc it always writes the drive letter in the map, so it is not a problem of the map file format or the compilers. Are you *really* sure you set up Hammer correctly?
• exoityexoity Join Date: 2003-03-17 Member: 14620Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
Yes I am sure. However, how do I set drive letter to H?

get nems batch compiler.
here
and make sure your wads are not inuse somehwere else.
other than that NEVER compile in hammer

the two downloads for nems compiler don't work.
• NerdIIINerdIII Join Date: 2003-04-05 Member: 15230Members
And as I already mentioned, it wont help as long as the map file uses paths relative to the current drive. Ok, to get you going finally: Move your compile tools over to drive H: where Half-Life is installed and it should work. (Compilers are called, 'working directory' is set to compile tools path. The compile tools will tell windows to open the wad files. Windows looks up the 'working directory' of the program that wants to open the file and merges the drive letter with the relative path of the WADs. Et voilà: H:\Sierra\Half-Life\ns\ns.wad )
