These have been in the game a very long while now (at least 3+ months) and we've yet to see any usefulness for those. Havent seen anything related to them in the Trello either so was wondering whats up with them. Would love to see some recipes involving either of those.

have to agree with this assessment though from looking on the wiki they have a use but they just aren't in the game yet.

Mercury is suppose to be an advanced material you use to make nanowires - http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Nanowires
Aluminum Oxide is suppose to be another advanced material to make aerogel - http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Aerogel

here are some other materials that aren't in game yet

Sulfur which will be used to make Polyaniline when combined with Hydrochloric Acid - http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Polyaniline
Graphene is another that will require Amino Acid... which doesn't make real sense because real graphene is made from graphite - http://subnautica.wikia.com/wiki/Graphene

Granted this is all still up in the air but these materials might be there as place holders or they could be there because they will be needed much later in the game when you need to start making much stronger materials to build some highly advanced tech. Both materials are found in fairly deep areas near the grand reef biome.

yeah I wonder it as well but they're starting to add new stuff that's in deeper areas so we could be at that point in EA that the developers are planning on adding items that will make use of these items. We still got half a year to a year before the developers plan on going full steam with release instead of the game being in EA. A lot of progress can happen within those months and there is also the chance that release might be delayed due to them wanting to add other things. Yes they do have a roadmap but that roadmap might not be set in stone.

Edit: lets not forget the developers will no doubt be adding new content to the game after v1.0 release when the game comes out of alpha/beta stages. Seldom does a game stop being developed until the team thinks it's ready to stop being developed, there's chances we might have a DLC or Addon in the future for the game where they'll add stuff they weren't able to put out on initial release.
