Curious on how the hull upgrade will work since it's a placeable in the cyclops

I'm sure this upgrade isn't working yet but still giving some feedback for it and questions.
So I built the hull reinforcement on my sub but I'm not really sure how the strange looking 'structure' is used by looking at it, does it generate some vibration which strengthens the hull or produce a kind of skin(hull) tight barrier or shield around the sub to allow to, I'm guessing let us go DEEPER than 200m or maybe not get a hull breach by tapping the terrain.
