However, sea scorpions are(were) awesome animals, and I would love to see something inspired by them in the game. During the early years of vertebrae history, in the times when fish existed, but had not yet given rise to land based descendants, sea scorpions were some of the apex predators in many ecosystems. They really do look like a mix between a crab, a lobster, and a scorpion, and it is a sight to behold.
Now, as I said before, they were a successful group, and very diverse, so there are lots of forms to look at.
What about an Anomalocaris-like creature? This was the top predator at his time (Cambrian era, about 500 mya). He could take the part of a small scavenger.
Some Ammonite-like floating mollusks would also be nice.
For me, this game currently also lacks of athropodes, like crabs or Trilobites which run around on the sea floor.

I suppose you'll be changing it, so it looks more akin to how lava reacts. But could you make it so we see an effect ice has on lava?
