    I cant seem to join a game. I can load up maps, but when it comes to joining a server... No can do :( It seems to join, and gets to map loading in the console, then the screen is blank and eventually it crashes completely. I have sent 2 or 3 error logs already. I hope they help. :( :(

    I like the idea of the random spawns, but I think most maps will have to be overhauled. Summit looks lovely. And Flight looks sweet. Not sure about that new twisting staircase. Threw me a bit. But I'll get used to it.

    Any one know what I should try with the server issue?

    so some feedback.
    1) Find it really hard to read the team resources figure. Its really small and most of the time blends in with the background
    2) The health/armour bar might be a bit too narrow and reliant on needing to read the numbers instead of the bars. Especially for something in periphery vision?
    3) Rifle butt definitely feels much chunkier now but i think you guys went a bit too far on the delay. Its dramatic when you do time it well and connect, but it also feels incredibly scripted.
    4) Liking the changes to rifle reloading. Both the increased reload time and inability to interupt for the most part.
    5) Why do aliens give off some weird fire effect when you shoot them? If your looking at the effect from an angle it looks like aliens have forcefields or something around them.. very odd. It looks nice, but makes no sense to me o.0.. breaks authenticity. Wouldn't some kind of blood come out instead.
    7) Going to miss super lerks but i guess the nerf was for the better :(.
    8) Oh, and you can still drop guns from unbuilt/unpowered armouries heh.
    9) Fade feels great so far :). Faster swipes doing less damage with more blink air control feels very nice indeed.

    Performance increased for me. I havn't even overclocked this stock i7920 yet o.0.

    Love your work guys first off, the visuals are now looking really great for the most part.

    My biggest gripe with this patch is performance :(

    Seems like its becoming a bit hungry on a lot of systems.

    Plays super well. Even with SLI enabled, no issues so far. Thank you for this great patch :)

    I love this build, really feels like a complete game now with all the little fixes. Especially the HUD. Small issues I had are the same most people experience. Mouse lag (seems like turning around lags a few ms behind) and the sound is weirdly muffled, like I'm under water. Hard to hear enemy footsteps. In NS1 it was easy to track just using sound. I can't seem to do that in NS2 at all.

    Bug found, if i fire the rifle and get a ammopack i dont have to reload i got instant +50 bullets, feels like a minigun ^^

    Realy? Just energy like obs scan?

    This and a lot of other things like mac mines, flamethrower burn surfaces sounds like marines are way op now?
    What did aliens got to balance it?!
    Oh right: "Increased hive cost from 50 to 100"...wait no!

    Hmm im waiting for next release or maybe just playing marines.
    Shotgun + nanoshield run ftw...

    Played for about 40 minutes before crashing in comm, here's what I encountered:

    1. Missing Ricochet sound bug, completely spams almost non-stop.
    2. Missing Reload sound for shotgun, pistol, maybe others I did not test
    3. LMG started shooting by itself, even when I reloaded, only way to fix it was to use rifle butt
    4. Drifters glitch out, one drifter was supposed to build but got stuck during the animation and just stood on the floor completely invinceable
    5. When welding marines, the armor % goes up and down continuously, but it's just the visual
    6. Vent power node is broken I think, I didn't try but the majority of my team said they could not repair it after it went down
    7. Beacon didn't work
    8. Sentries work for about a minute then stop working, and make a sound non-stop as if they are shooting, but without the bullet noise
    9. Trying to enter comm station is very weird, the doors start pushing you around and sometimes it's hard to stay inside it when the doors close
    10. Huge FPS issues

    Not sure if this is a bug or feature, but every single weapon has a fire animation when hitting, even my axe shows a burn animation when hitting cysts.

    I'm sure they were more but I forgot, and I did not play aliens so I have no idea what their situation is.

    Keep in mind guys that nothing has actually gotten worse, there are bugs because this is a major patch with a bunch of big new systems all going in at the same time. That's what it means to be a beta tester. Give them a little more time to stabilize things and iron out the kinks.

    Bad news:

    Terrible performance.

    Good News:

    Never had good performance ;)

    Constant 19-30 FPS on Tram and a little mouselag with

    PhenomII x2 2,8
    Radeon 5650 1GB
    4GB Ram
    Newest Catalyst 11.11a


    Technical:

    Couldn't drop anything as alien com that needs nodes; no RTs and no Hives on Tram.

    Art and design:

    Brilliant. I hope I will ever be able to play that fluid. Cool and stylish Hit-reg Visuals, Great DI-Prototype, Fun to play Lerk, brilliant graphics, cool rine-HUD, great sound.


    You have my permission to continue.

    EDIT: 1. Tram is beautiful.
    2. Atmospherics + Hiverooms + DI: Never saw anything like that in any game. Thank you.

    Ok seem that the servers I was trying to use were duds.

    Other issues I have noticed so far:

    -The skulk is so slow it's a joke. They probably needed to be a little slower, maybe. But not that slow, its like driving a bus in the game, when you should be in a sports car. And makes the Marines far better sooner on in the game. I would put the Skulk back the way it was until all the other units are in. If they need to be slower then, then make them a little slower. It seems that you have tried to fix the early skulk rush issue by slowing them down, but the new Random spawns stop that any way, because Aliens will inevitably be looking for Marines (that is there job after all, to get rid of the Marines from their home) and so they will be spread out over 4 or 5 Tech Points. Which means only one or two players will reach the Marines spawn point early on in the game and if the Marines are doing there job right, then they will be able to fend off the odd skulk pretty soon-ish. Put one-on-one in a room, a Marine should be able to hit a skulk one or two times with the rifle, but a skulk should be fast enough to reach the Marine and get a few bites in or be able to run away. But currently Skulks cant dodge anything and feel sluggish.... maybe its just me.

    -Power nodes take a life time to fix when they go down and some cant be fixed at all. They should take a while to fix, so that comms want to protect them, but I think in most cases it seems to be a bug. It took me and another guy about 5 mins to fix one, then we both got chomped from behind by a skulk, and it was taken down again. Then another Power node wouldn't even fix.

    -When buying guns from the armoury, another one drops on the floor.

    -In the few games I have played, very few eggs drop from the hive. In some cases only one, when the whole surrounding area was covered by infestation.

    -The backwards sound in the death cam is horrible. It needs to be quiet if at all. Most of the time you're watching another player, so there is sound from them, so you don't need more. Get rid of it please.

    -Health on Marine HUD needs to be bigger, the last version was much clearer and easy to glance at. (But that might just be me, I am playing on a 27" display)

    And on a better note:

    - I love the random spawns, sooooooooooooooooooo good :)

    -Marines seem to have more than a fighting chance now. But I am yet to see a late game because Aliens are a tad under powered, I think improving skulks movement speed would help this, maybe?

    -Summit looks lovely! :)


    Give me a few more days to see what else I like and dislike and I'll get back to you.

    Just you on a localhost? You need cheats on to place anything.

    Also 19-30FPS = plenty playable, terrible is 5-15FPS :)

    We know, that's why people are reporting bugs and things they like and dislike, there is no point in having access to a games Beta if you don't speak up.

    It goes without saying really. Just like it goes without saying that we all love this game and want it to do really, really well! :)

    Sorry, I'm a highspeed FPS'ler like Quake or even NS1, I can't work with those rates ;)

    Edit: Well I think even a COD-PLayer had problems to bite a rine with that performance - the problems did not feel like network-related.

    Also the only way to be sure is by typing net_stats in the console and have a gander at the server performance. A server tick rate below 15 (arguably 20ticks) ticks is starting to show the problems

    I love the build but its gunna take some getting used too. Also i hope there will be a quickfix in the next couple of days to patch things up a little bit

    Finally tried it.

    Considering all the extra graphic effects that in the last builds would paralyse my system, it's working kinda well! I get 10fps with all this stuff on, playing highest res my laptop supports + graphics set to high. Previously would have got 0 until I turned off atmospherics.

    When I do get higher FPS (in the ready room) I see the animations are playing really smoothly like never before.

    Simply love the HUD design and minimap.

    BUG--- Anyone else notice turning the flashlight on and then trying to turn it off results in it switching back on automatically. After 2 or 3 times of trying to switch it off it eventually does go off. I don't know if this was a bug in the code or just a bad server with delay.

    + Smoother performance, turning with mouse felt much better now. Takes some time to get used to, but should be better.
    + Better performance, 110+ fps in summit ready room, 40-70 in game with medium settings on 1280*720 resolution
    + Almost playable with high settings on 1980*1080 and r_aa enabled, 15-30 fps. (PC: I7 2600 + HD5770)
    + Random starts, gave game a refreshing feeling.

    - Sounds bugs
    - Steam issues, authentication problems. Server problems. I guess these problems will sort themselves out.
    - When died only could spectate infantry portal where I was spawning from. Even thou there was other marines running around.
    - When knifing alien RT it gives off something yellow which doesn't look like blood at least. And effect is pretty big.

    Didn't have time to test alien, since game crashed while changing graphics settings and then could not join any games.

    HUD is nice, but seems buggy. Also would prefer for HUD to be customizable, really would prefer map to be on upper right corner since its there usually.

    The HUD needs a flip.

    -Hp/armour bar needs to be on the bottom left corner.
    -Map needs to be on the top right corner.

    I'm pretty annoyed at this build.

    I love the technical improvements(especially atmospherics)

    everything else is just plain annoying.

    The stalemates are worse, marines kill aliens too quickly(as in TOO QUICKLY), aliens kill marines too quickly(as in TOO DAMN FAST). It's frustrating... I haven't seen a game go for a decent amount of time yet. Theyre either over in 30 seconds because someone rushed due to the new random bases. Or they simply do not end, people have to go to the ready room to end the game.

    It's annoying, and unless there is a hotfix to fix these horrid balance issues, I don't think I'll be playing this build.

    It's like playing a game of DoTa, and I despise that game for it's lengthy boring tug of war style gameplay, where the only thing that happens is waves after waves of soldiers run in and die.

    Heres what I would like ns2 to be: More dynamic, with hives going up and down, marine stations going up and down, and a lot less sitting around barely holding off the enemy for hours.

    Also, sentries are overpowered. Also, marine assault rifles are overpowered.

    I just, this build has made me sad. I'm not going to stop supporting this game, but if build 188 was meant to be a long lasting build, well, it's just not going to happen, if me... a player who sticks with builds right the way until the next build is released, is going to quit after a single day of the build's release.

    The lack of balance was expected. So many things were changed that something had to break. I'm sure the game will be better than ever after a couple of patches fixing the biggest new bugs and improving the balance.

    i tried 4 times to join a server. from this 4 try 3 was black screen error debug sent. once 1 was able to join a game just to see my 15-20 fps drop.
    Thx but THX i dont need cosmetic changes for 20 fps drop, and unable to play. Back to Skyrim maybe after a year a will try NS 2 again...

    Random bases has stopped rushes in most of the games I have played. Before 188 nearly every game I played the Aliens won because of a skulk rush, it was like 1 in 5 games where it didn't happen. Now players have to find the base before they can rush it, which means commanders can get things sorted before more skulks arrive. Also a random start is far more like most RTS. Which is good. And 30 seconds is still a longer period of time than the 15 seconds I was seeing, about the time it takes for skulks to get accross the map, in 187.

    Random starts are the best thing in 188.

    I had the same issue, I think its to do with the server, I joined a server I played alot and it worked fine. Try a server you have played before or one that is almost always full, as these ones work most of the time.

    As for FPS try turning off atmospherics and setting your graphics settings to a lower setting. As the game gets better looking, you are bound to see fps drop.

    I am personally seeing a range from 35 on very selective points on Summit, all the way up to 80+ fps on other parts of the map, I'm yet to get into another map.
