Beta 7 version of 2007
Okay, when I started ns_cetarnus back in 2004, I had a pretty much clear idea of how it should look like. I had a layout drawn on paper, a background storyline written to it (which I can't find anymore), all I needed was to build that damn map.
And it took quite some time, alot of playtesting, and reworking, creating textures, playtesting, reworking again and so on. It never felt finished, and so I released 7 beta version alltogether each playtested for balance on PychoNLs Hangout. (Thanks Psy :)
) and with beta 5, it was at a state of balance I felt comfortable with. It there wouldn't be the problem of the design.
It never satisfied me, and there where always so many spots which needed an overhaul that I didn't want to release it to the wild, and after quitting Natural Selection I also stopped working on it. Back in 2007 I picked up work on it again and reworked parts of the map, finally leading to Beta 7 verison.
Due to the sheer size of the map, I was reaching a point where I couldn't work on the map anymore, due to limitations of the compilers. The csg compile log of b7 stated:
planes 32676/32768 653520/655360 (99.7%)
So.. There wasn't pretty much any more room for adding anything anymore. It would have been a solution to rework parts of the map, reducing panes here and there and slowly progressing, but... no.
So now in 2010 playing some NS again, waiting for the release of NS2, and digging through the archives, of my mapping folder, I thought well, whatever, release the b7 version and start working on a NS2 version of it. Maybe at some point I'll finish it and might be satisfied with the result (might just take some years ;))
