The Kharaa begin their first colony among unaware Shashnanii
Through deep space, a lone particle drifts. From thousands of kilometers away, a freighter is hurtling in its direction. The particle is a seed about the size of small crate, travelling only a fraction of the speed of the freighter. They hit tangentially, the seed shedding its coat and adhering to rear corner on the ship.
The seed hardens and begins to probe for leaks in the hull. A tendril prys between panels and goes flat through seams. It is guided by the heat inside, looking for that environment to survive. The first footings of infestation reach an inner deck through a console panel. The infestation spreads, finds condensation from the pipes below and soon reaches the cieling. Threads are let down and the starting of the hive has begun. Most of body mass is created concealed within the panels. The less conspicuous mebranes wait in the open and are filled by a complex vascular pump. The hive fills and produces its first spawn.
An automated cleaning bot comes into the room and inspects the half-formed hive and chemical blob growing on the floor. It's logic senses fail when it cannot resolve the inconsistency between biosigns and a bacterial hygeine issue. After a reboot, it decides the phenomena is a failure in its programming, decides to ignore the infestation and leaves.
The first gorge opens it's eyes, stretches its jaws and stands up. The rumble of engines mark South, the room opens to the NE with the hum of machinery beyond and a small vent is down through the grate in the floor. The gorge stands ready to explore and find food for the hive.
Chocolate, this adventure is for you to start. You can move around as you'd like, creating your own story or you can ask me to describe things and give you options. You spawn as a gorge an feel free to narrate up until finding the first resource node. There are no nanosludge outlets like the TSA possess. Instead the Shashnimyn resource nodes are in the form of nerve-ending power plugs in the floor, wall mounted food dispensers and other provisional outlets. The ship is techno-organic so you can describe whatever that means to you.
New players may start as Kharaa skulks in the hive room at any point during this game. All spawns cost resource points. Skulks cost 1, Gorges 10, etc Each story related post adds 2-5 hive resources. This is multiplied by the number of resource towers or critical areas held. Every Kharaa player uses the same resource pool.
The ship is about 150m long, 75m wide and 50m deep. It is three levels in total. The middle level is pictured here. The lower level is about a 1/3 the size of the main level, and mostly unused by Shashnimyn. The upper level is patchy, with rooms from the main level extending up into it and mostly corridors and maintenance systems. The main level is the primary habitation and working level for the Shashnimyn, although they stick towards the bow of the ship, especially on long trips, coming aft to check on things.
The map so far. The yellow signifies vents, and each grid is 3m x 3m. There is an RT in the first room N of the hive (which extends up to the next level), the large room at the bottom right is a hangar with a couple figthers, a shuttle and crates. The main hallway extends north about another 15m and is a wide open kill zone. The green rectangles are solar wings on the outside of the ship.
